1969 INTERNATIONAL SCOUT 800
There a fair amount of debate as to who made the first SUV.
International-Harvester's Scout 80 and 800, built from 1960-1969,
can make a pretty good claim. This white cream 800 offered for
auction has an optional Sportop and for very serious off road,
powered by I-H's 304 cu in V-8 with 4 Speed makes 193 horsepower.
She also has a Granny first gear for those who are serious off
roaders though I doubt most would want to get such a pretty truck
dirty.
The SUV does have a famous past. She was used by SKOAL Tobacco
(just a pinch between your cheek
and gum) for advertising in print and public appearances.
