Ford introduced 5th generation Mustang for the 2005 model year. The
5th generation codenamed "S-197", was based on the new D2C
platform. Developed under the direction of Chief Engineer Hau
Thai-Tang, a veteran engineer for Ford's IndyCar program under
Mario Andretti. The powertrains were revised for 2011 model year.
This generation saw the debut of the 32-valve 5.0 L "Coyote" motor
producing 412 hp and 390 ft-lbs of torque. As well as a new 3.7 L
aluminum block V6 engine weighed 40 lb less than the previous
version. With 24 valves and Twin Independent Variable Cam Timing
(TiVCT), it produced 305 hp and 280 lb�ft of torque. Transmission
options included the Getrag-Ford MT82 6-speed manual or the 6R80
6-speed automatic based on the ZF 6HP26 transmission.
