Vehicle Description
1962 Ford Ranchero
The Ford Ranchero was a combination passenger car and pickup truck.
The vehicle was first produced in 1957 and sold as its own model.
From 1960 until 1964, the Ranchero was offered under the Falcon's
model designation. The Ranchero was designed to compete with
compact import cars. For this reason, the 1962 model's engine
selection was limited to only small six-cylinder types and sold for
a base price of $2,298.00. The Falcon Rancheros are still prized by
collectors.
For consignment a Falcon Ranchero. This small but mighty car/pickup
has had some work done to it, all be it from its condition, a
little while ago. Some interesting features like a parquet wood
floor on the bed, and more modern cloth seats added to the
interior. The rear tonneau cover in metal and is activated by a
remote control. An interesting build, on a seldom seen model of the
Ranchero, the Falcon based Ranchero.
Exterior
Burgundy metallic paint bathes the exterior panels, which show
scratches, bubbles, and some underlying rust. Black paint has been
sprayed on the bumpers, door handles, and badging. It presents in
fair condition, as it contains lots of scratches, revealing the
chrome and its faults that are being covered. This is also true for
the grille, which is better than the bumpers, but still shows some
of the aforementioned afflictions. A popup remote controlled metal
tonneau cover over the bed, matches the body color. Popping it
reveals a parquet floor, yes parquet, just like the one you do the
Tango on. Sadly, the tonneau has a leak, and some of it has been
irreparably damaged. This area also houses a storage box with a lid
which is covered in the parquet. Noted is a passenger window glass
has a crack in it, however, still moves up and down. Brushed
aluminum 14" American Racing Outlaw 2 wheels are on all 4 corners
of this car/truck.
Interior
A burlap style material has been used on the door panels, and the
headliner. Doors show slight leaks around the weather stripping. In
the interior, late model tweed cloth buckets with a large armrest
on the passenger side that could double as a center console for
leaning on for more comfort. The original metal dual cowled eyebrow
designed dash remains but has an aftermarket AM/FM/CD player, a few
new toggles, and dual gauges hanging from the underside. Also added
is a battery cutoff switch. In the back of the seats, a large
plywood panel has been added, and mounted on it are two large
stereo speakers...talk about a rumble seat?! Gauging is all
original within the dash and presents nicely. An adjustable
steering column has an aftermarket steering wheel attached.
Drivetrain
In the engine bay, which has been sprayed with a textured speckle
paint, sits the 170ci Inline 6-cylinder engine. It is fed by a
1-barrel carburetor and backed by a C4 3-speed automatic
transmission. A Ford 7" rear is noted in this drivetrain setup.
Undercarriage
Slight surface rust, with some areas previously repaired such as
floorpans, and crossmembers to the frame. A large quantity of
rustproofing spray exists on various areas of this undercarriage.
It is unknown if this serves a nefarious purpose to hide anything,
but based on the rest of the car, I would imagine repairs were made
if needed.
All in all, an interesting model of a Ford Falcon seldom seen in
this configuration. An interesting and some curious parts as to the
restoration, however it runs well, and with a little TLC will be
back up to snuff.
