Vehicle Description
1956 Ford F100 Pickup
In recent years there has definitely been an uptick in older
pickups becoming more and more fashionable. There is something
attractive about those 1950 big grilles, curved hoods, and wide
fenders. Plus, the entire work genre has "picked up" wildly in
popularity due to special interest businesses using these vehicles
as promotion tools. Certainly, eye catching, and reflecting the old
guard hard work ethic in their design, they are not just for work
anymore.
This hay hauler turned silver bullet is about as close to a
resto-mod as you can get without actually putting it in the
category of resto-mod. However, I'm going out on a limb and save
for the usual deep dish wildly designed chromed wheels wrapped in
low profiles, this truck has the "chutzpah" to be a go-er and a
show-er.
Exterior
Having benefitted from frame off restoration which lasted a full 2
years starting in 2010, we now see this original barn find from New
Jersey in full resto-mod form. All new front fenders, running
boards and rockers, meld with original Ford metal doors and cab.
Consigner states that only the right-side cab corner, and floor pan
were replaced. The bed is rebuilt and adorned with oak. The rear
fenders are new. This is all buttoned up body and gap wise and it
received a stunningly clean and well-done coat of PPG 06 Ford
Silver Birch Metallic. The pristine badging and polished stainless
bumpers, plus don't forget the polished torque thrust wheels, and
I'm truly moved, but I'm just standing here looking at this
baby.
Interior
2 tone mixtures of light and dark gray vinyl, help make up the
totally restored interior. A near perfect bench seat looks forward
to a two-tone gray metallic metal dash. We can see new gauges
within the metal eyebrow, which have white faces and neat Ford logo
bezels which are as shiny as they are cool. An adjustable rally
style steering wheel with a large chromed column protrudes from the
dash. Headliner has been custom covered with tuck and roll stitched
vinyl. Black carpet covers the floor and is in very good
condition.
Drivetrain
There is nothing better than looking at a superior finished engine,
and the one is no exception in the form of a 302ci based 347
Stroker Crate engine. Within these confines are Dart Aluminum
intake runners, 62CC chambers, a 2.02 intake valve, a 1.60 exhaust
valve setup, and are pushed by 1.6 ratio rockers. A single 4-barrel
Holley carb feeds fossils and air through an Edelbrock intake. A
3-speed C4 automatic is on the rear, and there is a 2800 Stall
converter installed. Power moves to the rear wheels via a Ford 8.8"
3.73 geared rear. Note the neutral safety switch is nonfunctional,
so make sure this truck is in park before lighting it.
Undercarriage
Nary any sign of rust, just clean blasted metal painted in pristine
black. TCI Mustang II front suspension, and Leaf Spring rear
suspension have power disc brakes on all corners. A clean
Flowmaster exhaust system flows from engine mounted headers and
exits underneath the truck near the rear axle.
Other than commenting it is just a great build, fabulous fit and
finish, and all surfaces have been paid meticulous attention to, I
say not much else because my jaw is on the floor, and my eyes wide
open in amazement of this truck version of a resto-mod. The silver
bullet shot from the starting line with a press of the gas
pedal...she's a handful boys and girls!
