Displaying its original exterior color in refreshed, top notch
form, to go along with the most coveted interior configuration of
its time, this 1968 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 RS has undergone a
restoration that's brought out its best and now features a lot of
new parts from front to back, making for both a super clean
appearance and reassuringly solid driving experience. This
outstanding vintage muscle car rolls with both its original
broadcast sheet and window sticker on board to attest to its
authenticity.
Equipped with all the styling cues its elevated dual status brings
with it, this Z/28 Rally Sport gives off the vibe of a muscle car
driven straight from the assembly line to a waiting crew of
craftsmen for customization, but Chevy really did build these upper
echelon Camaros with all this awesomeness on board right from the
factory floor. Its ash gold exterior wears a pair of broad stripes
running the length of a hood bearing a signature cowl scoop and
looks clean - it was refreshed a while back and still has an
excellent shine, though a comprehensive detailing at the hands of a
pro will take it to an even higher level. Below the surface, a
number of sheet metal panels were replaced entirely to ensure
corrosion won't be an issue and all are well fitted - the body
alignment is very precise. Up front, the hideaway headlights sit
flush in their closed position inside the properly badged grille
looming above the clean front bumper and open without incident.
Both the body trim and collection of badging on display here are
also on point. This is just a flat-out, razor sharp, special
edition classic.
The interior has been thoroughly refreshed and features black and
white houndstooth checked upholstery that's synonymous with its
edition of the model and became a signature styling cue in its
heyday. Everything's got a fresh look inside the doors - the
surfaces on the front buckets and rear bench seat have yet to
develop any marked wear, the carpet and headliner are in great
shape, as are both the center console with its quartet of deluxe
gauges and the door panels on both sides. Just in front of the
factory steering wheel, the dash area also presents very well, with
clear, functional gauges in its instrument cluster that include a
Tic-Toc-Tach and a dash pad on top that shows no cracking or
discoloration. You'll even find the original AM radio still on
board at the center of the dash, fully operable.
Raise the scooped hood and you'll notice right away that the engine
compartment has been meticulously maintained. Every surface inside
has a steamed clean appearance and there's not a wire out of place.
At its center is a period-correct 302 cubic inch V8, wearing a
chrome air cleaner and matching valve covers. Armed with stock
heads that feature high compression pistons to make the most out of
its displacement, as well as a 4-barrel carb, the engine is in top
form, sending a deep, resounding note out of its aftermarket
exhaust as it teams with a smooth-shifting 4-speed manual
transmission that provides an excellent "hands on" driving
experience. Power disc brakes in both front and back bring
low-effort, fade-resistant stops as this vintage muscle car turns
heads on its set of 15" stock wheels. Take a glance below and
you'll see an undercarriage that's solid and well-prepped for many
more exhilarating miles ahead.
