Gold over Dover White' color paint (Code 40-12) with it's
remarkably original from 1959 and still covered in factory plastic
'Silver Black Coronado Metallic Cloth amp; White Leather' (Trim
code 40) specifications interior with original factory
specifications and original factory options including; 390 cid
325HP 4 BBL V8 engine, 'Jetaway' Hydra-matic automatic
transmission, rear seat center armrest, carpeting, 4-way power
seats, power brakes, power windows, heater amp; ventilation system,
AM radio with rear speaker, rocker panel moldings, rear fender
skirts, wheel covers amp; optional rear axle!Sharing the General
Motors corporate design, Cadillacs were totally new for 1959, from
new tail-fins and roof-lines to engines. Cadillac re-engineered and
rethought everything. The new frontal styling continued the jewel
like look of the previous year although this time the grillework
ran the full width of the car and was no longer encompassed by
grille bars and the bumper. Dual headlamps were set into the front
fenders under a slight underhang and below them twin parking/turn
signal lamps were mounted into the bumper. The hood was wide and
somewhat flat with a wraparound windshield mounted higher allowing
for a much improved view of the road with the slender rear pillars
and greatly enlarged rear window allowing for better rearward
visibility too. And at the rear, well, the iconic tall tailfins
with twin bullet shaped tailights and bumper ends emulating jet
engines exhaust outlets, were to prove the most outstanding and
instantly recognizable of all American car designs internationally
for years to come.The Bill Mitchell designed Cadillac was as large
and luxurious as ever and this is a Cadillac that could easily
carry six people and featured an all new powertrain boasting a
large 390 CID V8 engine producing 325 horsepower. Depending on your
taste, the 1959 Cadillac was to prove the most magnificent of all
tailfinned Detroiters and has become in any case the most iconic
symbol of everything fifties in America! From the glittery chrome
grille to the extravagant tailfins and all the gadgets and luxuries
inbetween, its a car that now defines the entire automotive
industry for that era, the ultimate of classic American cars, never
to be repeated or indeed attempted to be imitated since then.The
ultimate polarizing car for equally large armies of Cadillac
enthusiasts as tailfins reached their final incarnation of excess,
never to be any larger and which unarguably symbolized the end of
an era for both Cadillac and of course the 1950's. Regardless of
the debates, it is today recognized as probably the definitive
Cadillac year ever and without a doubt the most distinctive and
recognizable Cadillac anywhere and a true American icon all around
the world!This is a mostly completely original garage kept
'survivor' car which boasts both it's correct original factory
'Gotham Gold over Dover White' color paint and it's all original
and still covered by factory plastic 'Silver Black Coronado
Metallic Cloth amp; White Leather' interior! The floor boards,
trunk and all the typical rust-prone areas are solid and the car
has had no accidents - obviously a mostly garaged and cherished car
since new. There are obviously some very noticeable cosmetic
imperfections as one would expect of such an original example and
of particular note would be a small 'punch' hole clearly visible in
the original dashboard on the passenger side, some paint chips and
minor scratches, and some obvious signs of aging in the exposed
areas of the original seat fabric most noticeably on the top of the
rear seat, etc, etc.The car drives well and has had some recent
service work performed prior to sale. It has good compression
readings, a rebuilt carburetor, the fuel tank was removed and
inspected and cleaned amp; a new fuel sender amp; all new fuel
rubber lines were installed, new points amp; condensor kit, new AC
Delco spark plugs, set base timing, all oils and fluids were
changed, new battery amp; cables.This is a rare opportunity to own
a great daily driving example of a true survivor 1959 Cadillac
