For Sale: 1955 Ford Thunderbird in Charlotte, North Carolina

Vehicle Description

One of the best aspects of the first-generation Thunderbird is the car's ability to suit a wide variety of personalities without ever straying from its performance roots. From refined to sinister, a change of wheels and color is all it really takes to show these Fords in an entirely new light. This 1955 roadster airs on the flashier side of possibilities thanks to its glowing Goldenrod Yellow exterior and striking Black and Yellow cockpit. But don't let those fashionable aesthetics distract you, this drop-top is also packing some serious firepower! Backing Ford's storied 292 V8 with a smooth Ford-O-Matic 3-speed, this T-Bird is a solid cruiser that's benefitted from careful restoration. And if you're looking for an awesome classic that's fun, attractive and ready to roll, you simply won't find a cooler car for the money!

YELLOW, BLACK AND YELLOW

The car's correct Goldenrod Yellow profile kicks off with a stainless egg-crate grille, which hangs a small Classic Thunderbird Club International plaque between clean headlights, chrome-trimmed parking lamps and a bulleted bumper that bends around peaked fenders. Between those fenders, an intricate header emblem leads a classy hood scoop, which fronts stainless-trimmed glass that's reflected in a duo of correct mirrors. Above those mirrors, a Goldenrod Yellow hardtop latches down over a Black soft top as a part of Ford's innovative dual-roof system. Below those roofs, sculpted door handles and stainless-trimmed fender skirts perfectly complement sedate louvers and flowing "Thunderbird" scripts. And at the back of that lettering, chrome-trimmed, jet-inspired taillights center an intricate trunk emblem above a second wraparound bumper that's fashioned around the car's exhaust.

TWO, NINE AND TWO

Tilt the hood and you'll find 292 cubic inches of dressed Thunderbird power that's been thoughtfully upgraded with a 12-volt electrical system. Introduced in 1955, Ford's stout Y-block remained an option in blue oval staples well into the mid-1970s! Behind that mill, a correct Ford-O-Matic 3-speed spins power to a sturdy 10-bolt axle. Turns come courtesy of lucid power steering. Braking is strong thanks to power-assisted drums. All of the chassis' parts feature a weather-free appearance, reinforcing the idea that it's been a very long time since this 'bird's seen daily-driver duty. And on the outside of those parts, handsome Kelsey-Hayes wires spin 205/75R15 Firestone FR721 whitewalls.

BLACK, YELLOW AND BLACK

The Thunderbird is legendary for its characteristically upscale feel. And when this roadster's Goldenrod Yellow pigment is combined with a correct Black and Yellow interior, it creates an exciting yet classy driving environment. Thanks to the car's quality restoration, its power-operated seat is livable for years to come. Front and center, classy telemetry, cool climate control and modern, direct-fit audio look great plotted among engine-turned bezels. In the middle of the floor, a chrome shifter feels both firm and precise. Clean carpet floats Thunderbird themed floor mats between brilliant door panels that front factory power windows. And in front of the driver, a glossy steering wheel spins a chrome horn ring around a mirrored, telescoping column.

A highly desirable drop-top that wraps well-maintained restoration around a storied V8 and a smooth 3-speed transmission, this slick T-Bird offers a little something for everyone. And what's better: it's exactly the kind of classic that provides endless fun on the highway and celebrity status in the parking lot. Don't miss the opportunity to experience a stellar piece of American automotive history!
