Vehicle Description
Even though it's a modern build, this 1961 Chevrolet Impala Bubble
Top oozes early sixties good vibrations. It doesn't get any better
than a 409 under the hood, and this one looks exceptional with
period-correct Offenhauser finned aluminum valve covers. An
open-element air cleaner assures good airflow, and a set of tube
headers and dual exhaust contribute to looks, sound, and
performance. It just follows naturally that there's a four-speed
manual gearbox behind it. The colors are perfect, with a turquoise
and white color scheme inside and out. A clean North Carolina car,
the top is the desirable "Bubble Top" design. "Dyno Don" Nicholson
started the 409 legend in a Bubble Top Impala at the 1961 NHRA
Winternationals. Although Chevrolet featured the Bubble Top other
years, many feel the '61 is the best example. The hot rod vibe is
accentuated with a column-mounted Sunpro tach, and the popular
triple gauge cluster mounted under the dash. Even the Riddler
wheels harken back to the Halibrand mags seen on many drag and salt
racers back in the day. The car was in the hands of its previous
owner since 1995, which isn't surprising. When a build achieves
that elusive perfect feel and representation of a storied era, it
becomes a keeper. This 1961 409, 4-speed Impala Bubble Top is just
that.
