Vehicle Description
1957 Chevrolet Bel Air Station Wagon
Imagine a car so popular that a new term came to be, based on that
design. That name is Tri-Five, which refers to 1955, 1956, and 1957
Chevrolet automobiles, in particular the Bel Air, 150, 210 Sedans,
and the Nomad. With beautiful proportions and new skins each of
those successive years, and a thorough peppering of chrome, these
cars produced in this time became iconic. From all original to
highly modified versions, many Tri-Five clubs have sprung up to
showcase individuality, originality, and the beloved Chevrolet
concepts of Harley Earl and his team.
Benefitting from a nearly total redux, body panels removed, scraped
and sanded, then repainted, suspension taken apart and redone with
new bushings etc., a 327ci V8 rebuilt, and an interior looking old
but new, one cannot go wrong on this beautiful 4-door example of
the Bel Air, and it's the most sought after year...1957.
Exterior
All beautiful straight steel panels, with well minded gaps over the
exterior of this car. Very nice Canyon Coral, and India Ivory two
tone, give this wagon a very retro look. All chrome, brite-work,
trim and badging is excellent, having been removed and polished to
a sparkling shine. The rear bumper is showing some dimpling and
discoloration near the exhaust pipes. Add some new weatherstripping
throughout, to pad the moving metal parts from scraping together,
and keeping water out of the passenger compartment. 15" Crager SS
wheels wrapped by 215/75R15 tires all around, and we have ourselves
one really nice car.
Interior
Totally redone in retro style, the vinyl cloud like pattern, mixed
with gray and vertical black ribbed panels, and throw in some
stainless, and we have ourselves a set of 4 rocking door panels.
Slipping into the seats, we see a similar mix of the same
materials, add in seatbelts for safety, and we are dripping with 57
style. A refurbished dash with all correct gauges and then some in
the form of a tachometer, and trio of aftermarket gauges hanging
from the bottom of the pristine dash. The new aftermarket radio,
and the factory clock are seen as well in this snazzy dash. A calm
sea of black carpet covers all the floors and is very clean
throughout, even in the rear compartment, and a nice tight
headliner hangs above all this 50' style.
Drivetrain
Residing within a completely restored engine compartment, we see a
clean well done 327ci V8, sporting an aluminum manifold, a Carter
AFB 4-barrel carburetor, supported by an Edelbrock intake. The
transomission is a TH350 3-speed automatic. All kept cool by a new
aluminum radiator. A Ford 9" rear has been installed.
Undercarriage
All normal underneath with some surface rust present, however
nothing to worry about as it is a 62 year old car, even though it
does not look it! The front suspension is all original and has been
scraped, cleaned and repainted prior to rebuilding. The rear of the
car has rebuilt springs. Aftermarket power front disc brakes, and
power steering are noted as well.
A true 1957 wagon in 4-door form, from its retro colored paint, to
the nifty interior in 3 types of vinyl, rebuilt engine which looks
the part too, a driver, and an award winner ready to take down Main
Street, turn some heads, then go get the groceries.
