Vehicle Description
1967 Oldsmobile Cutlass Coupe
Oldsmobile, the General's humble technology division, definitely
did its fair share to glorify the rise of Detroit. And this sweet
original Cutlass is a prime example of their much lauded "bar
brawler in a tuxedo" sales mentality. Yes, it could have been your
grandfather's or Father's Olds, but neither of them would be
fooling around in some stuffy powerless large piece of Detroit iron
that is sluggish, not with this example.
Featuring a numbers-matching drivetrain, a rare Antique Pewter on
Black color combination and seemingly mostly original, this Olds is
one of the coolest A-Bodies around our halls of Classic Auto Mall.
And if you're looking for a solid, road-ready classic that'll turn
heads, and you'll not have to fuss with, then this is your cruiser
to go up main street, and at a very reasonable price to get in the
game.
Exterior
Featuring its original paint, it has dulled to a beautiful Antique
Pewter patina, which shows a few dents and dings, but overall well
preserved for not having a respray. A restored black vinyl top sits
above all this gracefully aged steel and sports the coolest "flying
buttress" tops as it comes to rest on the rear quarters. Chrome
shows some age, but is not rusted, just dulled and a little pitting
thrown in for character. The bumpers imbedded into the body for a
more streamlined look, have a trim piece attached on either side
which runs from bow to stern, connecting the bumpers, truly
original, with some uneven gaps to give it personality. Speaking of
personality, chromed spoked wheels, speak loudly on all 4 corners,
and are wrapped in medium white sidewall radials...Smokinn!
Interior
A split bench draped in 60's two toned gray cloth zig zag pattern,
with stitched black vinyl uppers and smooth bolsters, and a bit of
splashy chrome trim to boot, and we are firmly planted in late 60's
GM design. Speaking of this design, a glance at the dash, in its
black and brushed stainless simplicity, has the original radio and
simple controls all there and functioning. Upholstery shows a few
stains and scuff marks but is in overall good original condition.
All this floats in a sea of black carpeting below, and a tight
vinyl headliner above.
Drivetrain
Appearing restored to original factory gold block and valve covers,
a decal emblazoned air cleaner sporting Jet Fire verbiage, covers
this 330ci V8 which is believed to be the original power plant. A
2-speed Jetaway (don't you just love these midcentury jet age
names?!) automatic graces the rear of the engine. Supple rubber
hoses and clean clamps suggest that it has been kept up on the
maintenance front.
Undercarriage
Surface rust and a bit of invasive rust in areas can be noted.
Floorpans are good, frame shows some surface rust, and rockers have
rust as well. All original underneath with the factory
rustproofing, and power drum brakes all around.
Wonderful dulled patina, some preserved interior, a bit of rust
where one would expect it underneath, and a very nice power plant,
this time capsule can take you back in time to an era where we were
shooting for the moon, in social upheaval, and going through our
growing pains as a country. GM found its stride in this preserved
example of your Father's Oldsmobile, now follow in his
footsteps.
