FLEETSIDE (STANDARD SIDE) BEDS: Most trucks have standard side,
also known as fleetside beds. These truck beds have an essentially
straight exterior shape and the rear wheels of the truck are
located within the truck bed under the wheel wells on either side
of the bed.
For consignment a very nicely restored 1969 long bed Fleetside
Chevrolet. Consigner states the truck was an original 3-owner (same
family) truck. Grandfather was original owner, then to grandson,
then to father who did a total restoration in 2012, and I might add
a beautiful job of it. An excellent example with a nice color
combination.
Exterior
A former work truck for a woodworker, this truck is still a worker,
but if you are fussy about marring it, then you may want to just
retire. Beautiful straight steel panels, nice gaps, all covered in
YN 1994 Ford Truck color of Silver...Hi Ho! A wonderful White Oak
bed trades off with clean shining bed mountings between the oak,
and the combination is pristine and visual eye candy. A single row
of steak body wood is mounted to the top of the bed and can be
removed for any configuration you may need. This too is fabricated
in oak. An all correct front grille is beneath a blue bowtie
embellished near perfect hood. Badging throughout is good, as well
as chrome. Utilitarian blackwall tires hub capped with standard
Chevrolet covers adds to the worker bee look. No Bling here, just
all business.
Interior
The original interior in Turquoise is sprayed on the Standard C10
dash, and stamped door panels, within which are beautiful chromed
cranks and handles, and a hefty black arm rest. A very nicely
restored front bench in green, stretches from door panel to door
panel, and will seat 4 comfortably, although there are only seat
belts for 2. A matching green padded dash is atop of the gauge
cluster and glovebox and shows no cracks or faults. The original
steering wheel spins in front of the 3 on the tree shifter.
Utilitarian rubber floor mats are below the bench and are
presenting very clean. Above is a turquoise painted metal ceiling
with 2 green sun visors, and a rear cabin light.
Drivetrain
Open the hood, and you are met with just a beautiful engine bay and
engine restoration in the form of a numbers matching 307ci V8. This
is attached to the original Saginaw manual transmission and topped
by a 2-barrel carburetor. Absolutely correct, and very well done in
orange and black with supple rubber tubes, belts, and no corrosion.
Wonderful!
Undercarriage
In a word...stellar! Slight surface rust, but mostly black sturdy
steel framing a good solid undercarriage. A 12-bolt rear, and newly
restored drum brakes are noted underneath.
When you are dealing with an item that has family history, there is
always a significance factor that comes into play when you are
working to keep a memory or an item of interest alive. This
restoration proves that, as it was meticulously preformed, and now
ready for years of more work, or just going to shows...make room on
the mantle for trophies.
