1962 Impala Convertible.
We love a car with a great story here at Sunnyside Classics and
this beautiful 62 Impala Convertible certainly has one. Always in
the area under local ownership after being bought new in 1962 at
Shepperd Chevrolet in Wellington, just a few short miles from our
store. We have a copy of the original title and the original owner,
from Wellington, owned the car from 1962 to 1991. When he sold his
baby in 1991 it had been driven just 43,925 miles. The car went on
to have a couple of short-term owners and then was sold to the
gentleman we bought it from- he owned it from 1999 till we
purchased it.
Today this car has 56,919 ACTUAL MILES on it. This impala has been
loved and cared for and still has its original interior to attest
to the miles. Its beautiful. This car has NEVER BEEN RUSTY. PERIOD.
The owner previous to us wanted the car to be very fresh and had it
repainted in its original Ermine White which is quite stunning
today. Our understanding was that the original paint was just a bit
tired.
Sporting a newer top, great chrome, outstanding original interior,
serviceable underside (zero indications of any rust ever) tidy
engine compartment, this 62 runs and drives as you would expect a
low mileage original to drive. Sporting its powerglide trans, 250
(4bbl) Horsepower 327, and upgraded front disc brakes with power
steering I'd put the top down, throw a cooler in the back seat and
drive this baby to California tomorrow.
We have a copy of the original title, the original owner's manual
filled out in the original owner's name, and a copy of the mileage
statement when the original owner sold the car. This is just one of
those special cars. Ownership history tells us this is the 327 this
car was born with but the engine is stamped 04I4 S. The car was
built the first week in April and since the engine has never been
changed we are assuming the line worker just felt like putting an I
in instead of a 0. Imagine that.
There's a lot of rehacked, rebodied, refloored, refendered,
reworked, refreshed, reinteriored, re blah blah blah cars out
there. We rarely see them like this and when we do we buy them and
love them. If you understand that then you will truly appreciate
this car.
Drive it, show it, keep it in a bubble and polish it as a prized
possession, the choice is yours once you make it yours.
