Vehicle Description
Rare 1950 Bentley R Type brought to you by Caruso Classic Cars.
This classic driver-quality import with right hand drive is an all
original car in good condition, has 70K original miles, is
mechanically sound and runs and drives well. The Bentley R Type is
the second series of post-war Bentley automobiles, replacing the
Mark VI. Essentially a larger-boot version of the Mark VI, the R
type is regarded by some as a stop-gap before the introduction of
the S series cars in 1955. This particular model has a coach
supplied by Vincent of Reading Ltd, a high class motor body builder
established in 1806. Other than the radiator grilles and the
carburetion there was little difference between the standard
Bentley R Type and the Rolls-Royce Silver Dawn. The R Type was the
more popular marque, with some 2,500 units manufactured during its
run to the Silver Dawn's 760. Only about 250 of the production run
had a custom coach. All R Type models use an
iron-block/aluminum-head straight-6 engine fed by twin SU Type H6
carburetors. The basic engine displaced 4,566 cc (278.6 cu in) with
a 92 mm (3.62 in) bore and 114.3 mm (4.50 in) stroke[3]. A 4-speed
manual transmission was standard. As you can see from the pictures,
the car's cream and brown paint has some minor flaws as pictured,
small nicks and chips, minor rust spots etc but the body panels are
solid and everything lines up very well. Interior of the car is in
decent condition with intact leather seats, burled wood grain dash
and a working Sun roof! All the chrome and trim pieces and
wonderful hood ornament are in place and are in very good
condition. Car comes with complete tool set in the dash and a
larger kit in the trunk that includes replacement light bulbs and
other accessories. This stately vehicle would make an excellent
candidate for restoration or could be driven and enjoyed as-is.
