For Sale: 1957 Chevrolet Corvette in Alsip, Illinois

Vehicle Description

The Owner Of This Corvette Has Been An Avid Corvette Enthusiast For Better Than Five Decades. With Many Frame Off Restorations Performed In Past And Winning Bloomington Gold, He Decided To Build This Amazing ONE OF ZR1 Corvette. Always Admiring The Corvettes Of The 56-62 Era, The SR2's, Sebring Race Cars, The Motorama Dream Cars And One-Of Specials That Were Built By The Factory At That Time, He Decided To Design A Corvette To Fit A Theme That Would Incorporate The Features Of Those Vehicles. Wanting To Do Something That Was Not Being Done At That Time, He Commissioned A Designer To Build A Round Tube Chassis Using The Latest Corvette Suspension Of The Day And Called It An SRIII. This Is Serial #1. After This Built, Many Corvette Custom Builders Decided To Purchase About 50 Frames.

Engine Consisted Of A Brand New (1992 Vintage) ZR1 Engine (LT5, Dual Overhead Cam, All Aluminum) Factory Rated At 375 HP And Paired With A ZF6 Transmission. Naturally, Special Modifications Were Needed To Install This Engine And Included A Custom Air Inlet To Provide A Transition From The Twin Air Ducts That Bring Cool Air In Through K&N Filters, Mounted To The Grill Area, To The Engine. Cooling Is Provided By An Aluminum Radiator Custom Fabricated By Be-Cool To Work Specifically With The Unique Demands Of This Engine. A Stainless Steel Gas Tank Was Fabricated By Rock Valley And Incorporates A High Volume Electric Fuel Pump Specific To The Demands Of The Engine.

The Standard C4 Brakes With A Full Functioning ABS System Was Used And It Was Found That The Only Brake Booster And Master Cylinder Combination That Would Provide Proper Braking And Hood Clearance, Coincidentally Was The Original ZR1 Booster.

Lingenfelter Performance Provided The Headers That Were Compatible With The Engine And Overcame The Chassis Clearance Problems, With The Added Bonus Of A Modest Increase In Power! The Rest Of The Exhaust System Consists Of 2 " Pipe And Chambered Mufflers. The Entire System Was Jet-Coated To Keep It Looking Fresh.

The Dana 44 Posi Was Modified With An Optional 3.73:1 Gear.

Halibrand Kidney Bean Style Wheels In 16" Were Selected As They Would Clear The C4 Brakes. Tire Size Selected Was P225/60ZR16 Front And Rear As These Tires Would Give The Maximum Width Allowable Without Body Modifications And Provide The Best Traction And Handling.

Paint Scheme Is Reminiscent Of The Factory '57 Corvette Sebring Race Cars - White With Royal Blue Racing Stripes. The Most Prominent Features On The Body Are The Bright Polished Stainless Steel Side Coves And Scoops Which Are Reminiscent Of The SR2. The Grill Oval Is Painted Body Color. What Stands Out The Most Are The 7" Driving Lights Which Were Integrated Into The Grill; The Grill Bar Was Also Set Back 2" Into The Opening.

Convertible Top Was Custom Made By Crown With A Dark Blue Stay-Fast Material Which Gave The Car An Updated, Elegant Look And Blends Well With The Stripes And Interior.

Interior Consisted Of Custom Fabricated Contoured Seats. Door Panels Incorporated Features Found On Corvettes Between 1957 And 1962, Including The Aluminum Door Panel Material Used In 1961. Center Console Was The Same Aluminum Material Used On The Door Panels. The Console And Lower Dash Were Designed To Allow Space For The Air Outlets For The Air Conditioning. Autometer Gauges Are White Background With Black Lettering. A Custom Steering Wheel Wrapped In Royal Blue Matches Both The Interior And Carpeting.
