This 1987 BMW 535is is a US-spec example that was originally sold
with an automatic transmission. The seller reportedly purchased the
car in August 2015 and performed a refurbishment that included a
repaint, a redone interior, refreshed brake and suspension systems,
and a rebuild of the engine. The 3.4-liter engine utilizes the
factory M30B34 short block and crank and was rebuilt with M30B35
components. A five-speed manual transmission was installed under
previous ownership. The rear differential was rebuilt, the timing
chain and guides were replaced, and other items were either
refurbished or replaced as described below. The build is documented
and photos of the process are provided in a thread on mye28.com.
Receipts for more than $45k in parts and work are included along
with spare parts and the car's factory manuals. Now showing 146k
miles, this E28 is offered in California with a clean Montana title
in the seller's name. This listing is live now, and only for 7
