Nineteen eighty-eight Corvettes are part of the 4th generation (C4)
that was built from 1984 through 1996 model years. For 1988, the
Corvette got an additional five horsepower from less restrictive
cylinder heads and new camshaft profile. Also new were freer
flowing mufflers included on cars with the 3.07:1 performance axle.
Improvements to the chassis design allowed for the introduction of
17x9.5 inch wheels with Z-rated Goodyear Eagle GT tires. With the Z
rating, the tires were capable of being driven at 149 miles per
hour for sustained periods of time.* *Scott Kolecki, 1988 C4
