Introduced in 1959 for the 1960 model year, the Corvair was GM's
attempt to compete with the sporty foreign imports that were
suddenly taking the compact car market by storm. The Corvair ran
for a decade, with two generations built. Eventually, the Corvair
was falsely cited as unsafe and fell out of favor with the general
public.
This 1966 Corvair Monza is part of the second generation of
Corvairs, and is in excellent quality condition inside and out.
Sometimes, a car just makes you stop and say "wow!" This Corvair is
one of those cars. With old cars, it is rare for a vehicle to be
truly "turn key." This Corvair is an exception, needing nothing but
a new owner! Everything about this car is dialed in, and it drives
tight and properly just the way you want a car to. This is a
classic cruiser ready to hit the streets, and go wherever you point
it. The body is clean and straight, finished in a gorgeous metallic
bronze color. A chrome set of 15" Chevrolet Rally wheels clean up
the look, give it a sporty feel, and really accent that bronze
paint! Additionally, 15" tires are much easier to come by then the
original 13s, making the wheel change not only a cosmetic upgrade
but also a functional one. The brown convertible top is in great
condition and looks almost new, and the light brown color is a nice
change from the usual black or white tops.
The interior is in excellent condition, showing minimal wear and
missing nothing. A modern stereo has been professionally fitted to
the dash to include modern functions such as Bluetooth and USB.
Speakers have been stealthily located in the center console
continuation piece in the back seat area. This car has plenty of
legroom, and is perfect for cruising!
Under the hood (trunk?) is a correct Corvair flat six cylinder
engine with four carburetors. This car hums like a horizontally
opposed sewing machine! Anyone who has ever driven or ridden in a
Corvair knows they aren't particularly fast, and this car is no
exception. However, this car is an absolute blast to drive! Some
say it is more fun to drive a slow car fast than it is to drive a
fast car slow, and that mantra certainly applies to this little
gem. The 4-speed manual transmission shifts just like you expect it
to, and cruising along with the top down while shifting on the
floor in this car is simply clean fun.
If you're looking for a clean, classic, convertible cruiser that
needs absolutely nothing your search is over! This Corvair Monza is
turn-key, ready to go today. Don't miss out on this affordable
opportunity to own a beautiful American Icon!
