Vehicle Description
This 1955 Chevrolet Nomad Restomod is an outstanding take on one of
the most beloved classics of the 1950's. Thoroughly restored and in
top form, it combines all the vintage aesthetic appeal a classic
could offer with a host of mechanical upgrades to vastly improve
its driving experience. If you like your curb appeal with plenty of
real-world functionality, you'll definitely want to take a closer
look at this one.
It's such an evocative classic. Nomads actually debuted the very
year this '55 came out after wowing audiences at the 1954 General
Motors Motorama Car show, where they were fittingly included in an
exhibition entitled "Dream Cars". Stout and capable looking, the
Nomad capitalized on the momentum of Chevy's already popular Bel
Air, but quickly forged an entirely separate identity for itself as
a coveted ride for adventure seekers not wanting to sacrifice style
for spaciousness. This Chevy wears a signature look for the model,
with a two-tone color scheme cloaking it in Cashmere Blue with a
white top and the paint is in good stead, with nice shine and no
glaring blemishes. The entire Chevy line of this era wore its fair
share of chrome - this Nomad is no exception and its array of
exterior fittings are in uniformly great shape. Aftermarket wheels
and tinted windows add just the right amount of distinction and are
the only deviations from stock form.
There's a plush, well-configured interior waiting beyond the doors,
featuring custom two-tone upholstery on both rows of bench seating
and the door panels that's striking and yet also in keeping with
the sensibilities of the era. Clean carpet lines the floor and the
freshly painted surfaces inside the cabin are in top form. The
factory-issue steering wheel sits on a shortened column that
affords a more comfortable driving position and the dash area just
beyond it is museum-worthy, with pristine chrome accenting spanning
most of its width and a fan-shaped instrument cluster harboring
clear, functional gauges. A retro-look AM/FM stereo sits at the
center and underdash vents bring the cooled air from the added
climate control system inside to keep things comfortable. The cargo
area in back is a showstopper - it features freshly prepped wood
planks interspersed with stainless steel reinforcements that extend
to the inside of the liftgate.
This Nomad features a number of modern upgrades to provide a
driving experience well out of reach of most classics from this
era. A 350 cubic inch LT1 V8 takes the place of the original engine
in a very clean compartment whose inner fenders and firewall have
been color matched to the exterior. It sits surrounded by an array
of polished, top-tier components and has been armed with a cold air
intake system and aftermarket headers to amp up its output. The
engine teams with a 3-speed automatic transmission that's shifting
in top form, and a generously proportioned radiator and electric
fan have been added in front to keep temperatures down in more
demanding driving conditions. With tubular A-arms and coilovers up
front and an independent rear suspension lifted from a Corvette in
back, this Chevy offers a smooth refined ride while power steering
makes it easy to navigate. Classic Performance Products power disc
brakes at all four corners team with a matching master cylinder to
bring the set of 17" Cragar wheels wrapped with Yokohama tires to
fast, fade resistant stops. Below, the undercarriage is solid and
coated in gloss black paint for protection from road-bound
corrosion.
Its model holds a distinct place in American automotive lore and
