Vehicle Description
1955 Ford Sunliner Convertible
The Ford Crestline model had several versions of the car depending
on what your preferences were. The Sunliner was a convertible, the
Fodor was a 4 door sedan with extra chrome trim, the Skyliner which
had an open rooftop which was retractable, and was referred to as a
basket handle design.
The beneficiary of a 4-1/2 year full frame off restoration
completed in 1994, this Sunliner has gone on to win accolades such
as First Junior @ Hershey, 1st Senior @ Hershey, 1st place at
Cherry Hill, New Jersey Grand National, 17 preservation awards, as
well as numerous Best of Shows, and People's choice awards
throughout Central Pennsylvania.
Exterior
With Snowshoe White to the trim spear at the belt line, then
Seasprite Green below, highlighted by chromed rocker covers, nicely
preserved bumpers, and tasteful chrome topped fins, this car is in
overall very good condition. With its round "Thunderbird-esque"
taillights donning pointed backup lights above mounted into the
fins, we are dripping with midcentury modern styling, and the nice
paint is backing it up. If you are still not convinced, the jet age
hood ornament will put you right over the edge. Wide whites with
the Seasprite Green steel rims, and Ford shield chromed caps are
seen on all 4 corners. A nice tan convertible top is above all this
50's styling and moves up and down with ease. When it is down, a
Seasprite Matching boot is there to cover it, and really sets this
car off!
Interior
Moving inside the Snowshoe and Seasprite continue with the latter
on the dash top, door panels in horizontal tuck and roll, and
center tuck and roll panels on split buckets up front, and a rear
bench. The Snowshoe is seen on the bolsters, and front of dashboard
which houses the pristine instruments, as well as the steering
wheel which is very nice. Dark Green carpet floods the floor, and
in extremely good condition. A shout out to the trunk which houses
the spare tire in matching Seasprite Green steel center, and square
plaid vinyl trunk liner which looks like new.
Drivetrain
Opening the hood, we are met with a showroom looking engine bay
with a 272ci 4-barrel V8 sitting in the center. Out behind this is
a Ford-O-Matic 2-speed automatic transmission. All details to
originality are there as even the See Clear windshield washer bag
is correct and like new! Electrical system has been converted to 12
Volt however radio remains 6 volt.
Undercarriage
A look underneath, and you will be amazed how clean it is.
Literally looks like factory, with nary a drop of water spotting,
rust or unsightly repairs. I guess that's why they call it frame
off?
A so-called trailer queen due to the findings overall, but
especially the condition of the undercarriage. Plenty of attention
paid to all details of the original car, and great efforts to
restore all surfaces as such. A snazzy color combination, small
fins, and we are headed to the local drive in to pick up some
trophies and grab a bite too. Hang the tray and let's eat.
