Vehicle Description
1966 Ford Fairlane 500 XL
Why This Car Is Special
This sporty 1966 Fairlane XL 500 we have at Skyway Classics was the
top of the line and advertised by Ford as the sporty version, but
ours is a little more sporty than it was stock. This great example
we have is powered by a 347 cubic inch modified stroker engine
backed by a C4 Ford automatic transmission and a floor shifter.
Mechanical Specs
Even though the engine and compartment appears to have the stock
289 cubic inch engine that it came with, and has chrome valve
covers, performance spark plug wires, chrome air cleaner, it is
not! It now has a 347 cubic inch modified stroker engine, with ADK
aluminum heads, finned aluminum oil pan, new alternator, starter,
and battery, stainless steel tube Tri-Y headers, trans cooler, and
only 1500 miles on the build. The original factory 289 cubic inch
motor come with the XL.
The undercarriage is all black painted, structurally sound, with a
custom dual exhaust, and 4-wheel drums to keep it simple. The
transmission works great and has stylish Ford 5-spoke mag wheels
with black wall tires.
Interior
The bucket seat interior appears as stock with center console,
factory gauges, seat belts and upholstery, red safety lights and
white courtesy lights in the lower interior door panels. A back
bench with the same presentation, sits under a very nice headliner
that is pristine. Up front the semi padded brown vinyl dash houses
the simple instrument cluster, and glovebox. An aftermarket
tachometer rests beside the steering column and an AM/FM comes in
the glove box.
Exterior
Our XL has a super tan paint job that covers straight panels with
good gaps, original 289 badging, bright work and chrome is in very
good condition, as are drip moldings, window moldings, and a
stainless rocker trim strip.
Conclusion
This sporty 1966 Fairlane XL 500 we have at Skyway Classics gives
you a great muscle car with plenty of power in a classic look too.
This XL might just be the one for you.
