Garage Kept Motors.) Owned since 1987 by our client, this car was
originally sold in the same town that our client purchased the car
in. The original Selling Dealer was Windatt Pontiac in Muskegon
Michigan. A car enthusiast, and paint and body guy by trade, our
client worked hard to restore this GTO for his wife to drive. This
car left the Pontiac Michigan production plant as one of the 661
GTO convertibles produced for the 1971 model year. The car is now
painted a GM color called Russet Orange, which is very similar to
the Canyon Copper color offered on the '71 GTO's. During the 2 year
long after work and on weekends restoration, every inch of the car
was pored over to ensure that the car was dialed in, and the
finished product would be impressive. The interior finish is
excellent, which is to be expected with very few miles put on the
car since the comprehensive restoration. The spotless interior
features a console, wood grain and turned aluminum trim, bucket
seats, and switches and knobs that are all in very good condition.
Under the hood is a 455ci V8 that is not original to the car, and
there is an interesting story behind that. Our client purchased the
car and told the seller that he would be back to pick it up the
following afternoon. When he arrived to pick the car up the next
day, the engine was gone. Whoever stole it made haste, and cut
hoses, wires, and lines to get the engine out. He told the seller
that he would give him $1000 more and ask no questions if he could
produce the engine, but to no avail. So a 455 from a '71 Firebird
was sourced to go in the engine bay in place of the original
engine. A 3-Speed Automatic transmission handles gear selection and
the original posi-traction rear end helps put power to the ground.
