Its rugged, no-nonsense appearance has roots firmly planted in
military service and was so universally appealing that its
manufacturer left its generation largely intact for a full three
decades - one of the longest production runs of any model ever to
roll off an assembly line. This 1978 Jeep CJ5 has emerged from its
restoration with a great looking exterior and upgraded,
period-correct power lurking under its hood. If you're searching
for a rugged, surefooted terrain navigator that also possesses a
ride smooth enough for everyday travels, this is definitely one to
check out.
With high impact black paint now draped over its instantly
recognizable form, this CJ5 offers visual vitality that's hard to
come by in a car of its age. The paint was only recently applied
and has a strong shine to it - a clay bar and buffing session will
elevate things even further. There are no noticeable dings or
scuffs to be found as you take a lap around this venerable vehicle
and while you're in the process of doing so you'll likely notice
the assortment of new components it wears, including the fender
flares at all four corners and a step bumper in back. During its
restoration, the other exterior fittings received the attention
needed to bring them into shape - in particular the chrome
accessories and all light lenses are very fresh. While this
nameplate is best known for navigating rugged terrain in open-air
configuration, during those times the weather won't cooperate, a
well-fitted bikini top is included for protection and it installs
easily.
Everything inside has also received a thorough going over, so as
you climb inside you'll be surrounded by a clean and comfortable
interior. The seats both fore and aft were recently added and they
certainly look the part - you won't find any creasing or signs of
exposure to the elements anywhere on their surfaces. Below them,
the entire expanse of floor has been coated for protection -
aesthetically a nice touch and also practical, given the temptation
the CJ5 presents for adventure off the beaten path. Just beyond the
factory-issue steering wheel, the dash area has been repainted in
glossy black paint to match the exterior and aftermarket displays
to keep tabs on oil pressure and voltage have been added alongside
the original cluster. All control knobs and switches are present
and accounted for and the recess at the center of the dash stands
by for the addition of your choice of audio system.
The 304 cubic inch V8 beneath the hood represents the most
displacement of any of the powerplant offerings when this CJ5 first
rolled off the line. It's in great form here, surrounded by an
array of new belts and hoses, starting up promptly and looking
sharp in its newly painted block and valve covers as it sits in a
tidy, well-maintained engine compartment. It wears a chrome air
cleaner on top, has been outfitted with a new distributor cap and
plug wires and teams with a 3-speed manual transmission to make for
a very solid, well-functioning drivetrain. When the occasion calls
for more surefootedness, the 4-wheel drive feature is easily
activated via a lever within easy reach next to the manual shifter
on the transmission tunnel. Power steering makes this classic an
easy handler both on and off the pavement, while front discs help
bring its set of ultra-clean 15" wheels wrapped with beefy all
terrain tires to fade resistant stops.
Combining plenty of vintage appeal with all the functionality you
could ask for in an off-roader, this 1978 Jeep CJ5 is ready for
action just as soon as you bring it home. Call today!
