Vehicle Description
1940 Ford Deluxe
Excerpt from the Foreword section of original owner's manual...
"The fact that you are the owner of a new Ford car is, in itself,
an indication that you have a keen appreciation of a well-designed,
carefully manufactured automobile. It has been designed to perform
faithfully for many thousands of miles, and Ford Motor Company has
the utmost confidence that this car will fulfill your
expectations." I think this wraps it up nicely!
For consignment this beautiful iconic design Ford Deluxe. Good
condition all around with some minor faults, and with key upgrades
for drivability and reliability convenience. Presenting very
nicely, and a great driver, I can attest to this from firsthand
experience.
Exterior
Blue paint covers this all steel car with gaps that are good. A few
faults to note, mainly a dent on the roof of the driver's side, and
some bubbling coming out on the lower door panels. Chrome is good,
and the bumper on the rear shows a ding. Wheel covers are chrome
dished edges, and a curved center FORD logo cap.
Interior
Clean tan vinyl abounds on the interior, noted on the door panels,
headliner, and bench seats that are peppered with a few buttons. A
tan metal dash in art Noveau style, houses the instruments, some
chrome trim, and a non-working clock. This is fronted by an
original contrasting maroon steering wheel. Similar maroon bakelite
knobs can be seen throughout the dash and attached to the column.
Noted also are the throttle lever in the dash is not working due to
missing parts on the carburetor for it, wipers are immobile, and
interior light has gone dark.
Drivetrain
The consigner states that he believes the engine is original and
shows as a restored 221ci Flathead V8. It has a 1-barrel rebuilt
carburetor atop, and a 3-speed manual transmission, also rebuilt,
on back. A new clutch makes the shifting effortless from the tree
lever.
Undercarriage
Coming from California, we can see little to no rust excepting some
surface rust. Undercarriage has been sprayed with rustproofing. 2
new 2" drop leaf springs, new brakes and wheel cylinders, and new
kingpins are upfront, and new shocks have been installed on
back.
Overall a nice California origin car, good paint, nice interior,
and a few faults as described. Many receipts from work the current
consigner did since his ownership are included. Ford
Deluxe...riding in style!
