Fun little 1973 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Coupe for sale. Repainted once in its factory Saturn Yellow. Includes original purchase paperwork, books, manuals, and many records.
Exterior looks pretty good. It had a consumer-level respray in its original color back in 2008 by its previous owner. There are signs of filler and body repairs but generally looks pretty good overall. The floors are in good solid shape though there is some rust in the dog legs behind the rear wheels. The glass and trim look good and the bumpers are straight.
The interior is comfortable, it has new carpet and some panels and the seats look to be in good shape. The dash pad has cracks, though the headliner looks nice. It has the rare, dealer added air conditioning and it looks complete though it does not blow cold and will need service to work. It actually has a working 8-track tape player!
The engine starts and runs well. The suspension feels good and I just replaced the calipers, wheel cylinders, shoes, pads, and all brake hoses so stopping is excellent. All of the lights are in working order and the charging system works great. It occasionally pops out of reverse sometimes if you don't hold it in. Otherwise, forward gears all feel good as does the clutch.
While far from perfect, it is a cool little Ghia and a bit of an unusual find, in particular, because we have the original owners manual & packet, all original purchase documents, and a cache of old repair orders in the first owner's name dated through the early 1980s. Very cool to have such solid documentation on the first ownership and especially rare to have the A/C system.
