Vehicle Description
1963 Dodge 330 Polara
The Dodge 330 was a full-size automobile sold by Dodge from 1962 to
and 1964 and was based on the B-body. The coupe often used a
6-cylinder engine. The car was available as a 2dr Sedan or 4dr
Sedan. Base motor was the 225 Slant-Six.
For consignment a 2-door wedge "clone" car. Starting life as a
4-door with a 6-cylinder engine, it is now a clone of an early
muscle car. Clean lines with just a few hints of its born-on
status, and a great wedge engine put in, this car is now ready to
rock and roll.
Exterior
With some slicing and dicing the rear doors were removed and
replaced with the single non-operating rear panel window beginning
at the B pillar. This now seamlessly melts into the rear quarter
panel, and Viola! we have a 2 door. Gaps are well minded, and steel
is straight, on this otherwise utilitarian muscle car. It is bathed
in white which covers the original DDD coded light blue metallic. A
lack of chrome and brite work, except for the 330 badging on the C
pillar and a 60's era Dodge moniker on the front of the front
quarter panel, we are left with the bumpers and grille which
present very nicely. Red steel wheels with polished dish rings and
a center hub cap both in chrome, are wrapped with black wall tires
as it should be.
Interior
A swing of the doors reveals a sea of red vinyl and carpeted
interior. Up front are the wide dual buckets held together with a
center "armrest" per se, and they are showing in tuck and roll
inserts and plain smooth well-padded bolsters. These seats are also
trimmed with some chrome and have a chrome base. Gazing toward the
rear is the bench in the same pattern, long and luxurious with a
peppering of chrome trimmings. Above all this is a tight red
headliner, and below is some niiiiiiice carpeting also in...red.
The dash and its pushbuttons are brought back to a nice original
state, and speaking of pushbuttons, you can select your gears with
the push of a button...shades of the Jetsons'. The dash is also
noted as very clean and is fronted by an original steering wheel.
Door panels are nicely redone, and straight and rust free as a
hunter's arrow. A shout out to the trunk, which is also rust free,
very clean and is back to original with a touch of texture paint
and spare and jack setup.
Drivetrain
The innumerable "Wedge" aptly named sits within a clean and
restored engine bay bathed in matching white. The block is painted
the correct orange, and sports chromed valve covers, coil, and the
dual air cleaner covers. This mill is a 413ci version and is topped
with dual 4-barrel carburetors which feed fossils and air to the
hungry V8. A 727 Torqueflite transmission is attached to the rear
of the healthy mill and is a 3-speed automatic transmission. An
8.75 rear is in back and transfers power nicely to the rear
wheels.
Undercarriage
Excepting for the occasional surface rust, and patina from 1963,
this car is solid underneath with no problems to remark about. Even
the lower panels of the doors are rust free and painted nicely.
With original versions of this car like hens teeth and way out of
range of the average muscle car aficionado, this car presents
nicely, as a clone version, and is priced within range of the
average potential buyer. Own a piece of early muscle car only
available from the dealer options, and only if you knew someone at
the dealership that is was even available.
