Vehicle Description
Special DeLuxe is certainly a fitting moniker for this majestic
1948 Plymouth 2-door Sedan. It presents with a style and grace
representative of its time, but in many ways ahead of its time. A
loving, meticulous restoration was finished by the last owner when
the previous owner had to bow out due to health reasons. Powered by
its original 217.8 cubic inch inline six developing 95 horsepower,
all the character and the vintage driving experience are
marvelously intact. Shifting the 3-speed manual is done right on
the column. The owner's manual explains how the various ratios
(2.57 low gear in this case) help the engine do its work from a
standing start. The manual even provides instructions on how to
take a turn! It instructs, "From engine to rear wheels, power is
transmitted as a twisting force." It's also a treasure trove of
information about such things as lubrication requirements, engine
specs, and the like. The car's owners continued keeping information
on the car, including such useful tidbits as part numbers for
replacement parts, reams of receipts, and collectible-level
literature such as factory service manuals. This is a superior
package for those who enjoy knowing the ins and outs of their cars.
And the information is presented in a charming, thorough manner
characteristic of the times. The interior is pure elegance with its
rich woodgrain, chrome on the dash, and ultra-leather seats. A
Chrysler trademark is a complete array of gauges, and this Special
DeLuxe has them, plus a push button radio in an ergonomic location
of the type that other car companies would boast about decades
later. Impressive chrome is everywhere from the grille to the
exhaust tip. The bumpers, those great Plymouth hubcaps, gas cap,
emblems, and trim are as new. Curb feelers will help you maintain
the ultra clean appearance of the wide whites, and the vintage
running boards. The tires, although vintage in appearance, are
modern radials with all their inherent advantages. This is a well
put together automobile with plenty of vintage charm, while its
black on black color combo keeps it right in step with current
style.
