Vehicle Description
1970 Chevrolet Malibu
The storied Chevelle is one of those timeless designs that looks
good no matter how it's built. Stock, modified, race, pro-touring,
whatever; the clean lines and balanced stance on these tough
classics create a confident swagger that's universally admired.
That means, if you're looking to ride in style, you really can't go
wrong with a Chevrolet A-Body. And when you factor in this ride's
modern drivetrain, tastefully restored interior and first rate,
all-American sheetmetal, you get the picturesque profile of an
incredible muscle car!
Looking at this beautiful restoration I have shades of the Pacific
Coast Highway, driving across the Bixbee Bridge, heading to point
Lobos to do some Ansel Adams-esque image capturing. Tickling the
accelerator, headed north from Big Sur, does life get any better? I
give you the inspiration for this memory the Chevy Malibu, right
here on the east coast at Classic Auto Mall.
Exterior
A Dark Green respray covers the original Green Mist from the
factory. A close inspection shows a nicely done paint job, and no
rust or eruptions in the paint are seen anywhere. Steel panels are
straight, and gaps are well minded on this classic Chevy. Badging
is all clean and clear, door handles show slight "eruptions" in the
form of very small dots, and mirrors are really nicely preserved,
as well as the bumpers on this car. Window surrounds and drip
moldings are very nice, as is the rocker trim. Nice polished chrome
American Racing wheels are surrounded by Firehawk Indy 500 radials
on all 4 corners. Bringing up the rear is a sloping rear window,
long trunk and a nice bumper which has the rectangular tail
lighting imbedded within it.
Interior
Looking mostly original, we see door panels that are slightly
different on the driver's side than the passenger side. The
driver's side looks restored and presents very nicely, and the
passenger side has been repaired, and the repair of the handle/pull
does not match. The front bench has been recovered with patterned
vinyl in light green with darker vinyl bolsters. The rear bench is
original and presents in cloth with vinyl surrounds and shows some
tearing and wear. Carpeting appears original has some fading and
slight staining and is covered with rubber floor mats. Fronting the
seating area is an unrestored original dash which has a Jensen
aftermarket AM/FM/Cassette radio, and an extra triple gauge cluster
hanging below it. A smaller rally style wood steering wheel is atop
the original steering column.
Drivetrain
Definitely the money shot on this car as we open the hood, a
completely restored engine bay with a rebuilt and non-original
355ci V8 topped with an Edelbrock RPM intake, and a Holley 750
Double Pumper. A steel forged crank, 2.02 heads, Pete Jackson gear
drive, high torque starter, and Mallory ignition you are ready to
trip some lights fantastic. All this produces a 10.5:1 compression
and sends power back to a Turbo 350 transmission with a shift kit
addition. Rear differential is a 12-bolt posi with 4.10 Richmond
gears. Consigner states this mill and drivetrain has approximately
2,000 miles since the rebuild.
Undercarriage
All original with some factory spray rustproofing, which has done
its job, as only surface rust is present on the frame, and none on
the floorpans. Also, no rust and just new rubber weather stripping
is noted on the bottom of the doors. The interior of the trunk is
fairly clean and definitely original.
Overall a nicely done Chevrolet Malibu, with a new power plant, and
transmission, new paint, cool wheels, and mostly original interior
that shows some age. Definitely a turnkey car, it will be up to the
potential buyer if you want to take it to the next step with the
interior, or just drive it!
