For Sale: 1965 Ford Mustang in Longmont, Colorado

Vehicle Description

Summary: Purchased from the original owner. All restoration work has been done following the MCA guidelines for their judging specifications using concours quality parts. This is a ‘C’ code Mustang, 200hp 289 V-8, 2 barrel carburetor, 4-speed manual transmission (2.80:1 axel ratio), black bucket seats (standard interior). Manual steering, No A/C, manual  drum brakes all around, built in San Jose CA and originally painted in Silver Smoke Grey but was repainted a light blue by the original owner. The original owner’s manual with dealer and owner signatures are still in the glove box.

Body

Straight lines and good gaps can be found on all of the body panels. Hood and doors close nicely and have good gaps all around. Only minor issue is an uneven gap on the rear-end body panel where it meets the driver’s side rear quarter panel. New chrome light bezels and badges have been installed all around the car and the chrome door handles have all been replaced.

There are a number of dings and small scratches on the doors. Almost no rust. Only one small rust spot can be found on the floor panel on the driver’s side, everything else is clean.

Interior

This car still has its original black interior with front bucket seats; the rear bench seat still has the factory fitted tags. The radio was changed by the original owner to a cassette player. The front lap seat belts are original to the car and are in good working order. The headliner is in excellent condition and a new rear package tray has been installed.

The fuel and temperature gauges work properly and a new speedometer cable has been installed. Indicator lights work inside and out, headlights and windshield wipers function as expected. The odometer shows 05520, which is assumed to be 105,520 miles.

The gas tank and trunk sound insulation have been replaced. The trunk mat is clean and is original to the car. The steel spare tire has been sandblasted and repainted, the trunk is very clean.

All the glass is original to the car, there is a small crack in the front windshield that has been sealed.

Under the Hood

Engine is the original 289 V8. The 2 barrel carburetor has been rebuilt and still has its original Ford tags (C5ZF A), the intake manifold is also original to the car and has the correct casting number (C50E-9425B, with 289 stamped above it) and the steering box also still harbors its original ID tag. The valve covers and air cleaner have been restored back the correct Gold color with new gaskets installed. A newly built, factory correct alternator has been installed as well as a new voltage regulator.

The 4-speed manual transmission is original to the car. A new yoke has been installed. The rear axel/differential came with this car when born (Ford ID tag reads WCZ-E  2.80  5DB 911). WCZ-E = 8” diameter; 2.80 = the final drive ratio of 2.80:1; 5=1965; D = April; B = second week; 911 = plant code

Windshield wiper fluid reservoir, pump and tubing have been replaced with new parts.

The distributor has been restored and the spark plugs, wires and distributor cap have all been replaced, it is running nicely off of points.

A Monte Carlo bar has been added but can easily be removed. Front and rear shocks have been replaced, and the leaf springs were recently changed.

Front and rear brakes are manual, drum brakes and the pads have been recently replaced, they are in good shape. Numerous new parts that are waiting to be installed and are included with this vehicle.
