DeLorean developed the Pontiac GTO and it appeared on American
roads in 1964 a whole new world of muscle cars was initialized. The
GTO of course went on to become a very desirable collector's item.
When Bob Lutz the chairman of General Motors announced 40 years
later that GM was bringing back an updated version of the famous
"Goat" it was an exciting moment for muscle car enthusiasts. The
new GTO was unveiled in 2004. Built in Australia as a Holden
"Monarro" the car showed itself to be a modern muscle car a good
bit quicker than the original but sophisticated and comfortable and
with an international flavor. The original GTO with its 350
horsepower V-8 engine was capable of blistering acceleration for
the time of 0-60 mph in 6.5 seconds with its 4-speed manual
gearbox. The reincarnated GTO now with a 360 horsepower 5.7 litre
10.1:1 compression all aluminum V-8 engine cut that time to 5.3
seconds with its optional 6-speed Tremec manual gearbox and was
able to provide a top speed electronically limited to 160 mph. The
car's tachometer is just one of 4 large analog gauges in front of
