The Blazer was designed and marketed to compete with International
Harvester Scout and the Ford Bronco. Both of these were originally
aimed at the short Jeep CJ series, which were much smaller than
other trucks. The innovation of the Blazer was to simply offer a
shortened pickup truck, which both increased interior space, and
lowered the cost of production with a shared platform. The Blazer
quickly became popular. For the first time, it married the off-road
capabilities of the Scout with the "luxury" features like air
conditioning and automatic transmissions routinely available on
pickup trucks. By 1970, the Blazer was already outselling both of
its older rivals. Ford, Dodge, and even Jeep would counter with
similar shortened pickups, with the Dodge Ramcharger and Jeep
Cherokee. It also came as a convertible.
1971 Chevrolet K5 Blazer that is silver in color and is in great
shape. The paint has a great luster to it and really contrasts the
chrome and brightwork. Exterior has had over $18k+ paint and
bodywork to make it look as it does today. The factory removable
hard top with sliding glass comes with it and helps capture that
authentic Blazer look. This Blazer is riding on new all terrain
Perless Wide Track Baja tires with aluminum wheels. Full tow hitch
to make use of the full capabilities of this Chevrolet.
Under the hood is a 5.3L Fuel Injected Vortec V8 from 2001 Surbaban
(58k miles on engine when installed). This truck has only 7,900
miles since restoration. Some other features include: automatic
transmission, dual exhaust, four wheel drive, locker hubs, new fuel
pump, new steel gas tank, power steering, power brakes, front disc
brakes, and Rough Country shocks.
Interior features new red and black leather interior that really
looks great against the silver exterior. Some other things that
have been added include: full heavy duty roll cage, kill switch,
security alarm motion sensors, restored and painted dash, updated
white gauges, tilt wheel, Marina-grade amplifier, and new black
carpet. This is a truck that runs out and drives as great as it
looks. Great running and driving Chevrolet Blazer!
