1993 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 Pace Car Edition
The Indianapolis 500 has used a pace car every year since 1911. The
pace car is utilized for two primary purposes. At the start of the
race, the pace car leads the assembled starting grid around the
track for a predetermined number of un-scored warm-up laps. Then if
the officials deem appropriate, it releases the field at a
purposeful speed to start the race. In addition, during yellow flag
caution periods, the pace car enters the track and picks up the
leader, bunching the field up at a reduced speed. Prior to the
first "500" in 1911, in the interest of safety, Indianapolis Motor
Speedway founder Carl G. Fisher is commonly credited with the
concept of a "rolling start" led by a pace car. Nearly all races at
the time, as well as all Formula One races even to the present,
utilize a standing start.

Exterior
Like a Tuxedo that attended a party, we have black to the 3/4
waterline, then white on the lower quarter. Beautiful unmarred
ribbonlike colored pin striping rides the wind and whips from front
to back of this car on either side. A speeding Indy Car graphic is
on the door panel, and special badging of the wing and wheel
Speedway logo since its inception, grace the panels as well.
Fantastic white wheels are noted on all 4 corners and carry the
white all the way around through the lower quarter of the car. The
hatchback has a small spoiler attached to the rear of it. Removable
"T" tops are noted on the roof.
Interior
Not unlike the exterior, we see cloth seats that have a white to
black confetti fade, and an overlay of more colorful ribbon. Front
buckets and a rear 2+2 (sans colorful ribbons) make up the
passenger compartment. These present with a few stains but overall
good condition. A crack free dash houses all the essentials, and a
tight headliner looks down on all this amazing activity going on in
the fabric pattern.
Drivetrain
A 350ci LT1 V8 with Aluminum heads, EFI, and 275hp, sits in an
original and fairly clean engine bay. It is backed by a 4L60E
4-speed automatic, a 10 bolt 3.23 Posi rear, and plenty of
power.
Undercarriage
Framing a flow master exhaust system, we note patina and surface
rust, which is age appropriate, nonstructural damaging, and as
expected. Floor pans and rockers, toe kicks and lower door panels
are all rust free.
A husband and wife's whim, this car was purchased from a seller in
Tennessee by a previous owner. They drive it from Tennessee to
Pennsylvania and were able to get an amazing 26 mpg while doing so.
For the last 20 years, this car was babied, well maintained, and
