Vehicle Description
2005 Ford Thunderbird Roadster
Such was the strength of the Thunderbird name, or, as marketers
call it, "brand equity," that it could evolve or morph into
different cars over the decades and still find success. The
Thunderbird became many different cars, each with its own story,
its own level of success and its own fans. With that kind of
history, it's legitimate to ask, "What makes a Thunderbird, a
Thunderbird?" How you answer that depends on what your favorite
Thunderbird is.
For consignment a last generation "Bird" that borrowed its design
queues from the classics and put it into a current day format and
style. By the numbers there were 9,525 made in 2005, 1,396 were
bronze, and 978 were made with light sand interior. This 3-owner
car with a documented 90,206 miles total, presents nicely.
Exterior
With the retro-esque exterior, round headlights and taillights, and
smiling toothy egg crate grille it shows much like an aerodynamic
version of the "square" birds of the late '50's. This convertible
also comes with a matching fiberglass top with porthole window,
which is also borrowed from the '50's version and has a cart for
the top. An aero hood scoop is noted, and consigner states he has
put a new chrome windshield molding on. The convertible top is
canvas and is in good condition.
Interior
Rounded surfaces, leather seats in Light Sand, a dash in black and
satin aluminum, white gauges, and a cream wrapped steering wheel
and shift knob make up the very clean interior. Black carpeted
floor mats with a tan edging covers the floors and full black
carpeting below can be seen. Conveniences such as seat heaters, a
6-disc CD player/AM/FM radio, and premium sound system, climate
control, automatic top, power locks and windows, and power
steering/brakes are installed.
Drivetrain
A clean, and well maintained 3.9 Liter DOHC Fuel Injected V8 with a
5-speed automatic transmission in back, sits within a clean engine
bay. Noted is a select shift "tiptronic" mode if you desire to be a
little sporty!
Undercarriage
Typical for a 90,000+ mile car we can note some surface rust,
corrosion, and general wear and tear, however nothing remarkable or
problematic underneath.
Certainly not a rare bird, but with its styling borrowed from an
earlier age, it will have its fans who want the look without all
the wrenching. Turn the key and go, or should I say fly down the
highway!
