Vehicle Description
Nothing says, "Go anywhere, do anything," quite as well as this
lifted 2003 Ford Excursion XLT. This Excursion uses V10 power, so
it moves effortlessly regardless of the terrain, and with a long
list of options and upgrades, it's the ultimate machine for taking
everyone you know to some pretty remote places.
Incredibly, that's original green-on-gray paint on this big
Excursion, and it's in great condition. Despite the off-road-ready
looks, it appears that this one has spent most of its life
protected and carefully driven and the shiny finish is a testament
to the care it has received. It has few scratches and maybe a chip
or two here or there, but most of that was sustained in drive-thru
car washes (don't use them!) and could be remedied with a buff and
wax. These trucks are still handsome and functional-looking, one of
the best designs if you're a fan of big SUVs, and with details such
as the flared fenders, roof rack, and matching electric step
ladders, it takes on a very serious look. We don't see any evidence
of paint work or repairs and having lived in the care of only two
owners its entire life, there's signs of great maintenance and care
everywhere. It sports the desirable dual "barn door" configuration
instead of a conventional tailgate, which makes loading it up in
close quarters a lot easier. Shiny chrome bumpers, big driving
lights up front, tinted windows, and a 4WP lift kit only add to the
highly capable look.
The sumptuous tan leather interior was one of Ford's best, rivaling
anything from Lincoln and making the Excursion one of the most
luxurious full-size SUVs you could buy in 2003. The seats, having
been recently recovered, are in excellent condition with minimal
wear and no damage or discoloration. Heavy-duty mats have been
protecting the carpets and the second and third rows are almost
like new. Unquestionably someone loved this truck and treated it
like something special. Just about everything was standard,
including front and rear A/C, a powerful Kenwood AM/FM/CD
touchscreen stereo with custom speakers, an amplifier, and even a
built-in subwoofer the left "barn door". In addition to that
there's cruise control, power windows, locks, seats, and mirrors,
and the list goes on. The instrument panel has been dressed up with
a slightly darker tan finish and there are a myriad of storage
cubbies, cup holders, and other useful touches. There's also
massive storage in the rear area, even with the third-row seat in
place, making this this ultimate road trip warrior.
As I mentioned before, this particular Excursion came with a 6.8L
V10, and with only 61,801 miles on the clock, this powerful motor
has a long life ahead of itself. The truck has been
dealer-maintained regularly, and is absolutely running like a champ
right now. It's all stock under the hood with signs of careful
maintenance and care over the years and as with most Ford trucks of
the period, parts are plentiful and service is easy. The 4-speed
automatic overdrive transmission handles all that V10 torque well
and the transfer case and axles are fully operational. A re-gearing
tune was applied for the larger tires and lift, and even with 4.30
gears with limited slip differential, this big brute can still
easily handle highway speeds. Other than the lift components the
undercarriage is all-stock, and although it's a little dirty (come
on, could you resist the puddles?), everything is solid and as it
should be for a low mileage truck. Slick Fuel alloy wheels are part
of the tough package and wear 35-inch Nitto A/T Terra Grappler G2
rubber all around.
With lots of receipts for all the recent work, this immaculately
kept Excursion is a rare find. So many of these trucks were abused
and used up, it's remarkable to discover one that's been loved.
