This magnificent 1971 Mercury Comet GT Custom is a one-of-a-kind build and total eye candy.  This car is restored to high show quality standards. 1971 was the first year for the redesigned Mercury Comet which was made until 1977.  As the VIN number indicates this car was born a 1971 Mercury Comet 2-door sedan with a 302 8cyl and built in Kansas City, KS.  This car was restored by well-known Magic Customs located in Brook Park, OH.  This car was completed in 2018 and has 563 miles since completion.  It has won multiple awards at the 2018 NMCA Muscle Car Nationals including “Event Winner” “Directors Choice” “Special Recognition” and “Outstanding Attention to Detail”.  It also was awarded “People’s Choice – 1st place” at The Pinto vs Maverick Car Show Challenge.  Photos of the awards are included but not the awards themselves.  Prior to the restoration this was an all original California car.  It underwent a complete rotisserie nut and bolt restoration.  The car retains all the original sheet metal throughout.  The body is very straight with great gaps throughout.  During the restoration a hood scoop was added for appearance.  This car was born yellow which didn’t fit it well.  The car was painted Grabber Blue with a black hood and side stripe.  This color combination fits this car very well and is total eye candy.  The paint quality is at a very high level.  Squeeges primer was used, PPG paint and SPI clear coat for an outstanding finish.  The correct sport mirrors and bumpers were painted the body color.  The front grille and rear light panel are painted black.  It has a new front windshield and the remaining original glass is in great condition. The rear windows vent open which is a cool feature.  It has new front and rear window trim, Tri-Bar modern headlights and a NOS Deluxe gas cap.  The car sits on new US MAGS wheels that are 17x7 on the front and 17x8 on the rear.  The wheels are wrapped with new Nitto NT555 tires that are 225-50-17 on the front and 255-50-17 on the rear.  The black interior of this car was custom made and is beautiful.  Sitting in this car is like sitting in a brand new car.  Everything in the interior was redone including such items as the headliner, sun visors, rear view mirror, dash, door panels, seats, seat belts and carpeting.  It has some custom features such as the leather dash pad, Autometer gauges, steering wheel, Lokar shifter, Hella horn and carpeted floor mats.  It also has a custom sound system including a Sony CD player with remote and two Pioneer 6x9 speakers mounted in the rear.  The trunk compartment is also beautifully detailed and textured painted. It houses the matching spare and Optima Red Top battery with custom hold down.  The engine compartment is highly detailed throughout and looks like a jewelry box.  The entire compartment was painted the same color as body.  The radiator support and custom strut tower brace are painted black.  The heart of this car is the original matching numbers 302 V8 that was stroked to a 331 V8.  This engine runs and sounds awesome.  The engine block was painted red and clear coated.  The engine paint is nicer than most cars paint.  Some of the engine upgrades include the Scat 331 stroker kit, Icon forged pistons, Edelbrock camshaft, Edelbrock lifters, Edelbrock chain, Edelbrock Intake and Edelbrock E-street aluminum head, Edelbrock carburetor, Lokar throttle cable, Lokar carburetor linkage, Russell braided fuel line and ARP bolts throughout.  It’s dressed with custom red Comet valve covers, Edelbrock air cleaner, CVF black pulleys, black alternator and high torque starter.  The black radiator has a custom cap and electric fan which turns on at 195 degrees.  The engine breathes through Hedman ceramic headers and a Magnaflow exhaust system that was coated in black.  Some areas of the exhaust were covered in DEI heat wrap and the tips are tucked nicely under the car so they can’t be seen.  The engine is coupled to the original matching numbers C-4 transmission that works great.  The transmission was completely rebuilt by Bert Brown Racing Transmissions in Ashtabula, OH.  They added extra clutches and rebuilt the torque converter.  The power is transferred to the original 8” rear end that is equipped with Richmond 3.55 gears.  It has new U-joints and the driveshaft was balanced by Henderson Driveline in West Lake, OH.  The undercarriage of this car is also highly detailed throughout and painted the same color as the body.  The original gas tank was restored and also painted the body color as well.  The front suspension consists of SCP upper control arms and strut rods, Global West lower control arms and Viking coil over adjustable shocks.  The rear suspension consists of leaf springs and Viking coil over adjustable shocks.  The braking system consists of a Wilwood master cylinder and Wilwood front disc brakes with drilled and slotted rotors.  All of the brake and fuel lines were nicely hidden for a neat look.  This car is over the top and something you don’t come across very often.  This car has been serviced and detailed which is documented with an invoice that is included.
