This has been our car hauler for the last several years. I
personally used it the most, going out buying cars. We
affectionately refer to it as "Big Red". It certainly does the job
very well and it has a cool factor too. Most ramp bed haulers are
on pick up truck chassis. This thing is big, has great sounding
exhaust stacks and is decked out with lights and accessories. It
has no problem at all pulling a trailer with a total of 2 cars. It
never felt underpowered, always had plenty of stopping power.
EXTERIOR: Accessories include chrome bumper and grill, LED light
bar, aluminum wheels, visor over windshield, chrome exhaust stacks
with chrome gaurds, diamond plate aluminum running boards, deluxe
mirrors. There is a locking diamond plate tool box. There is no
rust or damage on the cab body. The hood is plastic, no cracks. The
clearcoat is peeling in areas on the hood. Overall the red still
shines. The glass is tinted. It is the extended cab with a rear
seat. Tires were replaced recently. We had a custom made 90 gallon
fuel tank installed.
Hodges Ramp Bed- Hodges is the leader in ramp beds. Has diamond
plate floor with built in lights. Lights are great when strapping a
car in the dark. There are an abundance of eyelet hooks and the
heavy duty tie down straps with a variety of hooks. These straps
are so convenient to use and with the big leverage bar they can be
cranked down tight! Has a big winch that was rebuilt. There is a
steel gaurd to protect the cab. There are 2 large individual
locking compartments on the driver side. Inside one is an air hose
real attached to the air system. Very convenient to fill flat
tires, it will even run air tools. Passenger side has 2 big doors
that make 1 big compartment. In back it has hitch receiver with
trailer receptacle. Ramps are easily accessible. There is some rust
starting around the compartment doors. It is decorated with lights
along the bottom, up the cab gaurd and in the visor, they all
work.
INTERIOR: It still looks close to new inside. The dash, seats, door
panels, head liner etc are excellent. Both, the passenger and
driver seat have air ride. Both seats are adjustable with
adjustable armrests. Has a fold up rear bench seat, a total of 6
passengers can ride in the cab. It has ice cold air conditioning,
easy to operate automatic trans and a touch screen stereo. Overhead
is a CB radio and storage trays. We bought a big cooler that works
perfect between the seats and has cup holders.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Has a powerful VT365 International 6.0 turbo
diesel. All the components appear to be in proper condition. Our
maintenance has included a rebuilt turbo, replaced glow plugs and
injectors. Truly, there are no issues I am aware of. I would drive
this cross country right now.
This truck represented our business, when I attended car shows,
auctions or showed up at people's homes we wanted it to be
impressive. It is showing some age but it is still an impressive
truck. Some paint work could make it look new again. Only 95,000
miles, the heavy duty driveline is just getting broken in!
We replaced this truck with a new Dodge, I already miss Big Red.
I'll miss the sound of those pipes, the bounce of the air seats and
the feel of driving a "big" truck. Duplicate this truck new would
easily cost $125,000. Someone is going to love this truck!
I, Jay Grams, take pride in personally writing the descriptions for
virtually every car for about the last 30 years now. A significant
amount of effort goes into fact checking. What I am offering is my
professional impression of the vehicle.
Our salesmen are happy to assist with descriptions and making sure
your questions are answered. One great suggestion is letting us do
a walk around video that explains the car's condition in
detail.
