Vehicle Description
This 1984 GMC High Sierra is one sharp looking classic truck. It's
come through the years in strong
fashion, re-energized with fresh paint along the way and it still
features its original drivetrain, anchored by a strong running V8
under the hood. With its tastefully restored exterior resting on a
very strong foundation, just a few finishing touches - none of them
particularly involved - will take things to the next level and
result in a vintage ride that will definitely attract
attention.
The light blue and silver combo now draped over the exterior is a
great match for this Chevy. Two-tone color schemes have always been
a popular choice on trucks of this vintage and for good reason -
they provide a fresh look while staying very much in keeping with
their original identity. The work here has been performed well. The
paint has nice, even coloring and sits under a strong clearcoat
that provides a deep shine, and the pinstripes separating the
colors still show sharp edges. GMC trucks had the distinction of
being among the first to be computer tested before prototypes ever
hit the road and the resulting foundation here has served its
purpose well - after more than 35 years of service, the body lines
on this pickup are solid and there's no evidence of any sagging
below. A lap around the truck will also show that the trim is in
good order - particularly the stretch of chrome running along the
sides and back. The bumpers are solid and well-aligned and the
diamond plating at the rear is a fitting reminder that this High
Sierra is a workhorse at its core. The stance strikes a nice
balance - it's just a little lower than stock but leaves plenty of
tire clearance for driving in everyday conditions with no
problem.
There's a clean comfortable interior waiting inside the doors. The
light blue bench seat at its center shows very little wear, and
still has plenty of padding under its cloth cover. Fresh-looking
carpeting lines the floor and to each side, the door panels still
cling firmly to the steel that surrounds them. The original
steering wheel holds its place on the column and the dash area just
beyond it still carries its assortment of factory components,
including the stock gauges inside the chrome-finished instrument
panel and the original AM/FM radio. This truck left the factory
with air conditioning already on board, and likely just a little
attention in the form of a simple freon charge will have this
feature back online in short order. The bed area in back really
looks sharp. You'll find no evidence of damage from shifting cargo
inside the walls - in fact, there's not so much as a major scratch
visible, and the liftgate raises and lowers with no issues at
all.
Everything is in good order beneath the hood. The original 305
cubic inch V8 sits in a well-maintained compartment, surrounded by
a clean firewall and inner fenders and it's running strong, sending
a deep throaty note out to the dual exhaust. The engine pairs with
a 4-speed automatic 700r4 transmission whose overdrive gear makes
for nice easy motoring at highway speeds. Power steering makes this
vintage Chevy easy to navigate, while power brakes that feature
discs up front bring dependable, fade resistant stops as it rolls
on its set of 15" factory Rally wheels outfitted with RWL Cobra
Radial G/T tires.
Stylish and rugged at the same time, this 1984 GMC High Sierra
would be a great score for the classic truck enthusiast who puts a
high priority on a strong running condition and sharp appearance.
