This well documented 1968 Beetle has been part of my family for 50 years. She is rust free, looks great, and is a joy to drive with a fresh 1600 Dual Port motor and 4-Speed IRS transaxle.

She is dressed in Konigsrot, a rich royal red, with much of the original paint and still buffs up to a great shine. Much of this car is factory original. All body panels, all doors and the pan are original and rust free, including around the battery.

The interior is mostly original and in great shape. The vinyl seats, dash, headliner, door cards gauges, steering wheel, controls and switches are original. It even has the original cardboard glovebox and trunk items. Carpet and kick panels were replaced 15 years ago. Please see the photos -- it is all in very good shape.

My grandmother wasn’t even five feet tall and learned to drive in her forties. Blocks of wood taped to the pedals of some American Iron worked, but not well. In 1970, my grandfather bought her this Beetle. It was a great fit and quickly became part of the family. My grandmother passed it to my father, on to me and then my oldest son, who learned to drive with the Beetle.

Originally an Autostick, I converted to 4-speed IRS in 2005 when the original motor died. I wondered how she would perform with a modern motor and installed a Honda RC-51 V-Twin racing motor. A sequential shift Bug with 130hp is a lot of fun and I’d do it again, but I felt she would be charming as an air-cooled 4-speed.  I installed a fresh Roger Fowler 1600 dual port, German 34 PICT-3 carb, vacuum advance distributor with electronic ignition and EMPI exhaust with functioning heater. This makes great power and is everything a vintage Beetle should be.

Other non-original items include period correct Formula Vee Shift Knob, kick panels with speakers, front retractable seatbelts, EMPI 8-spoke alloy wheels, front disc brakes and polished T-Bar bumpers. The Alpine head unit (radio) works great, and the original Sapphire radio is also included with the sale. It was undercoated when new (see photos) This proved to be great protection, keeping the original factory pan rust-free

I have maintained the Beetle for the last 16 years. Recent service includes:

Battery - New battery

Brakes - Replaced master and brake switches. Bled system. Adjusted rear drums. Inspected lines, calipers, discs and pads.

Carburetor - Cleaned and adjusted German 34 PICT-3. Cleaned and sized jets.

Clutch - New Clutch and bearing.

Electrical - Repaired/replaced worn wires and connectors. Cleaned switch contacts, etc.

Engine - Roger Fowler complete rebuild of a 1600 Dual Port (about 1000mi).

Exhaust - New EMPI GT 2 chrome tip exhaust.

Heater - New fresh air and heater hoses, functioning heater

Ignition – Installed new single vacuum electronic distributer and coil.

Transaxle - Drained and replaced gear oil.

Other - Rebuilt original horn. Replaced noisy speedometer cable, Replace shifter bushing.

She looks and drives great and needs nothing to be enjoyed and driven daily. Check out the pictures -- her new family can choose when it is time to paint. I think the vintage paint is great and wouldn’t change a thing. Well cared for, she could easily be around for another 50 years.

I am selling “as is” and encourage you study the photos, ask questions, and drive and inspect the vehicle before purchase.

Let me know if I missed anything or if you need additional photos.
