For Sale: 1958 Goggomobil T400 in Wilderville, Oregon

Vehicle Description

Women love it! Car guys and gals do not know what it is. Draws huge crowds—be prepared to answer a lot of questions!  1958 Hans Glas Goggomobil Micro Car, Rare T400 USA Import 4-door with suicide doors and original glass and interior! This Goggomobil was stored inside for over 40 years with less than 27,000 original miles!

There seems to be no other rust free, very original T400.  I had to call ClassicCars.com and have them add this model # to their dropdown list. This Goggomobil was brought out of storage and refreshed, being kept as original as possible while making it road worthy.  Sale includes the original English version of the workshop manual with repair bulletins.

History: The T400 is the “big block” 400cc 2-stroke imported from Germany for sale in the USA.  Electric shift 4sd trans, larger headlamps, and bumper bars make the USA version rare and unique. BMW bought out Hans Glas for its belt-drive overhead-cam patent and still assembles BMWs in the old Goggomobil plant.

This Goggomobil was stored inside for over 40 years and is rust free. It was purchased from Tim Goodrich, the renowned 356 Porsche restoration specialist here in Southern Oregon. Original owners of record are a local southern Oregon family for whom it was imported, driven, then stored in a warehouse all those years.

Excellent running and driving condition, with < 200 miles since engine overhaul. Original interior. Original very rare rubber floor mat. Original wiring with upgrades. All original glass in good condition.  Door mechanisms and window regulators renewed.  New Tires, fuel hoses, brake hoses, steering gear seals, brake master and wheel cylinder seals. All exterior trim, bezels, bumpers and handles were removed, straightened, re-chromed.  Wipers, horn, speedo, turn signals are all original and working. The fuel tank and carburetor professionally cleaned. Body patina shows a few dings and scratches, showing original body of this 1958.  Licensed for the street with a listed top speed of 60 mph.

This car has only been shown once to the public at our small town cruise. (Check out the video.) People stepped into the street and stopped us to ask what it is. Parked on the street with the other classics and hotrods, the little Goggomobil had largest group of people around it.

Some minor cosmetic changes would put it at Excellent condition, asking “Good” Hagerty value:   $26,200
