Vehicle Description
1972 Pontiac Grand Prix J
The late 1960s and early '70s were good times for Pontiac, their
lineup offered just the right combination of performance and
styling. The GTO had the performance market covered and the
Catalina was there if you wanted spacious luxury. The Grand Prix
was a good middle ground between the two. In my opinion, the Grand
Prix was perfect for the buyer that wanted performance but
preferred a more refined look and feel.
This pre gas crisis car has large straight steel panels, with some
inconsistency in the gaps, particularly in the front hood and
grille area. Consigner states original car (even the paint) just
kept clean, and well maintained over its lifetime.
Exterior
Sitting upon clean rally wheels wrapped in raised white letter
Goodyear radials, this Cameo White covered car sports its consigner
stated original paint. With complimentary white vinyl top, and
chrome that is in good overall condition, exterior wise this car
looks fab for a 47-year-old example.
Interior
Seeing Covert Beige coverings in a material lovingly known as
Morrokide, I have no idea what it actually is, however it holds up
well because the buttoned panels on all seating looks like new! It
has remained clean, with no rips tears or even folds typically seen
on used cars of this era. Nice carpeting with no marks covers the
floor and has floor mats protecting it. A darker Covert Beige is
seen on the padded dash, and this houses deep set round gauges and
a clock. A strip of wood veneer has lighting, wipers, climate
(manual) controls radio and ignition. A matching console slips
between the buckets and appears very clean as well. One can always
tell a well-maintained car from how dirt free it is in the dash
area, and this one was well cared for. The headliner is nice and
tight and as pristine as the rest of the interior.
Drivetrain
A 400ci 4-barrel V8 matching numbers for engine and a 4-barrel
carburetor drive a 3-speed Turbohydramatic (TH-400) automatic
transmission. The engine appears unrestored; however maintenance
records are available from the most recent owner.
Undercarriage
Also original and very impressive on the little to no surface rust,
structurally sound with clean floorpans next to solid frame.
Rockers look really nice, and all is well underneath this large
car.
All original, all working, and all inspiring as to the very good
condition example this car presents as. A Model J which in GM code
means a standard trimmed car although we do see body colored
mirrors, and a Safe-T-Trac differential as addendums on options,
according to the original window sticker which will come with this
car.
