Vehicle Description
1984 Chevrolet Camaro Berlinetta
The term Berlinetta refers to a sports coup, typically with two
seats but also including 2+2 cars. The original meaning for
berlinetta in Italian is "little saloon". Introduced in the 1930s,
the term was popularized by Ferrari in the 1950's. Maserati, Opel,
Alfa Romeo, and other European car manufacturers have also used the
Berlinetta label.
Here in North America, Chevrolet produced a version of the Camaro
called the Berlinetta, from 1979 to 1986. From the 1984
advertising: "Above the night sky is black, punctuated by the
flickering stars and planets. Below the white lines of the road
snake deep into the unknown. The blue green glow of your instrument
cluster says all systems go for your starship Camaro Berlinetta."
This nice example has just 58,000 original miles and comes with the
original window sticker and owner's manual.
Exterior
Beige enamel drapes this low mileage car, and is highlighted by
black accents like drip moldings, window trim, halogen headlight
and signal light boxes, and front grille air dams. Noted too is a
black trim stretching from well to well at the belt line. Rockers
are two tone dark beige and are topped by pin striping. At the rear
of this car is a crash bumper badged with Berlinetta, and the metal
part of the rear hatch has a small spoiler which integrates with
the rear lighting and rear panels. A large greenhouse wrap around
hatch covers a nice cargo area. Supertrac radial tires wrap turbine
style dark gold painted steel wheels.
Interior
Climb in, buckle up, and turn the key to light up the digital
instrument panel, framed with plenty of push buttons at your
fingertips. Cruise control, power locks, power windows, a stereo
with equalizer driving 4 stereophonic speakers, computer-controlled
suspension, all wrapped in tinted glass. Grab a seat and you are
surrounded by near pristine tan cloth buckets with two tone brown
and black striped bolsters. These buckets flank a beautiful black
console which houses the power window toggles, rear deck opener,
and rear window defogger. Gold carpeting with nary a sign of
fading, floods the floor, and stretches from door panel to door
panel, as well as stretching to the rear 2+2 seating. If you want
to hide the cargo area contents, just give the rear cargo shade a
pull.
Drivetrain
A 305ci V8 mill rests comfortably within an original engine bay. A
115 amp generator is noted, an air injection reactor system feeds
fossils and air, and power is pushed rearward through a 4-speed
automatic transmission with overdrive. A 3.08 rear axle moves you
forward.
Undercarriage
Some surface rust has accumulated on steel parts; however, frame
and pans are structurally solid as a rock. Computer controlled
suspension gives this sports car its luxury ride.
Turning the key will light up this mid 80's spaceship. Tickling the
accelerator will begin the forward motion to warp speed, all the
while floating over the roadway due to the computer-controlled
suspension. So, climb in and grab hold of the future!
