Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this 1973 Datsun 240Z. A
two-owner North Carolina and Georgia car, it shows to a nice driver
standard and is finished in the fantastic original color of Avocado
Green Metallic (paint code 113). The long-term first owner was a
professor at Appalachian State in western NC; he and his wife moved
to the college town of Athens, Georgia (home of UGA) about 20 years
ago and the car went into storage. The current owner bought the car
in 2016 and set about recommissioning it (which included a repaint
in the original color, some rust repair in the floors and a
mechanical refresh). We believe the indicated mileage of 72k to be
original. Bumpers and trim are original with light patina, and
original paint remains under the hood.
Interior is likewise in presentable and mostly original condition,
with new seat upholstery and new carpet (but original door panels,
dash, headliner and steering wheel). Blaupunkt cassette stereo is
currently fitted but the original Hitachi AM/FM radio is included.
Heat/vent sliders were recently rebuilt and are working. A period
dealer-installed A/C system has been uninstalled but is packed in
boxes should the next owner wish to refurbish it and re-install
it.
Under the hood is the original, numbers-matching 2.4 liter overhead
cam inline six mated to a four-speed manual transmission; the
drivetrain is stock aside from an upgrade to Weber carburetors.
Runs and drives well and the clutch and gearbox feel good with no
crunchy synchros. This is the car that brought Nissan/Datsun out of
the econo-box realm and ushered in a new era of Japanese sports
cars. Then as today, if offers great styling at a price similar to
an MG or Triumph but far less than a Porsche 911.
