Vehicle Description
Wearing an appealing shade over its lengthy form, this 1962 Ford
Thunderbird is one very stylish customer - so stylish, in fact,
that back in its day the model it represents was prominently
featured in John F. Kennedy's inaugural parade not long before also
being awarded the honor of performing as the pace car for the
Indianapolis 500.
Long and sleek, this '62 represents the model in its roomy, early
'60s splendor. The light blue draped over its exterior is a great
match for this classic - it's a dead ringer for the Waterfall Blue
selection on the Ford color chart the year this T-Bird debuted, so
it is very much at home in this setting and has come through the
years strong. It's been a little while since the car ventured into
the paint booth and yet its head-turning abilities remain
unquestioned. This vintage Ford represents this iconic model during
an era when it carried quite an array of chrome ornamentation - its
intricate grille that houses a pair of fresh Sylvania headlights as
it merges with the front bumper just below, the long stretches of
trim that run uninterrupted across its fenders, doors and quarter
panels - with even more on display just a little lower, and a pair
of distinctive circular casings surrounding the taillights, these
defining styling cues and the entire collection on board here is
pretty solid, with just some polishing needed to bring out its
best.
A good portion of the blue interior was replaced during its
restoration a while back and, owing to relatively light use, it's
still looking sharp while remaining in factory configuration. This
driving environment is as suitably vintage as can be, with a pair
of low backed buckets straddling the lockable factory-issue center
console and a fresh expanse of carpeting covering the floor. The
dash area features a unique original design, with a trio of
displays in its instrument cluster, all of which appear fresh and
are fully functional, and a supple-looking dash pad free of any
cracks running across the top. The factory-style air conditioning
system entrusted with cooling this sizable cabin is blowing cold
and strong and is well up to the task, while an AM/FM/Cassette deck
stands by to add a nostalgic touch to your audio choices. In back,
the trunk area is both spacious and well-detailed, with a clean
stretch of fabric lining both the floor and the inner wheelhouses
and a full size spare standing by under its matching cover.
Beneath the hood, the engine compartment remains nice and clean
while harboring a 390 cubic inch V8 - almost certainly the original
powerplant - that's nicely dressed in a pair of chrome Ford Racing
valve covers and a chrome air cleaner. The big block received some
nice upgrades to amp up its output without sacrificing drivability
- namely a mild street cam and a Holley 750 4-barrel carb - and
teams with a 3-speed automatic C6 transmission to make up a very
solid drive train. A pair of Flowmaster mufflers add plenty of heft
to the exhaust note coming out of the tailpipes, and a new battery
was added to increase dependability. Power steering makes this
sizable ride easy to navigate, while power brakes provide it with
low effort stopping ability. This classic Ford rides on a set of
14" Kelsey Hayes wire wheels wrapped with fresh-looking tires and
features an undercarriage that appears to be ready for plenty more
fun filled miles.
You don't see many T-Birds from this era around any more and the
clean appearance and strong running condition of this 1962 Ford
Thunderbird make it rarer still. Call today!
