Vehicle Description
1985 Chevrolet El Camino
Back in the 1950's a woman from an Australian farm requested a car
that she could go to church on Sunday, and haul pigs on Monday. The
idea was hatched for a new kind of transportation, that being the
multi-use vehicle. GM's version was the El Camino aptly named after
the Spanish "The Way".
This car/pickup for consignment has 122,440 miles (not known if
actual) and presents clean with a fair condition exterior, and very
nice interior. Bed is solid, and car runs smoothly, and starts
quickly. Not a perfect example but owned by a consigner who was
passionate about the El Camino ultimately owning several of them.
Also noted a Z15 Super Sport Package
Exterior
Originally black now sporting a Black Cherry respray on panels that
show some scratching, and slight misalignment particularly up
front. Otherwise a rust free straight paneled car with nice chrome,
grille work and brite work. The long bed is adorned with a rubber
liner, and underneath there is no rust. Rear cargo door is marred a
bit, but otherwise unremarkable.
Interior
All dressed up in gray cloth with tuck and roll pattern, the split
bench stretches from door panel to door panel which are in good
condition as well. The mid 1980's square design abounds on this
interior with a wood grained dash, all square and housing round
instrumentation. A very clean dash is noted in padded gray
surround, and gray carpet floods the floor. Headliner shows nicely,
and A/C and an aftermarket AM/FM/Cassette player has been inserted
in place of the factory version.
Drivetrain
Sitting within an unrestored and original engine bay with nice
patina, we see a 4.3 Liter Fuel injected V6. This is backed by a
3-speed automatic transmission which pushes power to a 10-bolt 2.41
ratio rear axle.
Undercarriage
Surface rust is noted on many surfaces but is in no way invasive.
Structurally sound, and in overall nice condition, with power disc
brakes up front and power drums on the rear.
A popular type of car prior to the onset of the SUV, what better to
have a car that does the functions of a pickup. This versatile,
good condition, quick starter, is ready for work or play, and a
classic that is not seen all too often, it will turn heads!
