**** THIS VEHICLE WILL BE OFFERED FOR AUCTION AT THE GREENSBORO
CLASSIC CAR AUCTION - FEBRUARY 25 - FEBRUARY 27, 2021 **** In the
'60s and early '70s muscle cars ruled the streets and the strip.
These cars were distinctly American. They were fast, loud and went
far beyond a basic means of transportation. One nameplate started
it all and is widely considered the father of the muscle car. The
legendary Pontiac GTO kicked off the wild muscle car market with a
roar and made Detroit the world center for affordable
high-performance cars. This jaw dropping 1970 Pontiac GTO
convertible has been frame-off restored to an uncompromised level
of detail and accuracy. The restoration utilized every period
correct GTO component available, down to the nuts and bolts. During
the restoration, great care was taken to ensure that the car was
built back up exactly the way Pontiac would have produced it. The
quality of the restoration is nearly flawless inside, outside, and
even underneath, with no detail overlooked. In 1970 there were a
mere 1,919 GTOs produced with the legendary L75 455 cubic-inch and
M21 manual transmission combinations, however only 8% (158) were
convertibles and most certainly considerably less in this stunning
color mixture of Burgundy over Black. To handle the monstrous 500
foot/pounds of torque the 455 produces the 1970 GTO is equipped
with the heavy-duty Muncie M21 4-speed manual transmission as well
as a 3.25-diameter steel drive shaft. Drivetrain strengthening did
not end with the transmission and driveshaft when it came to the
455 HO GTOs. This engine option got special treatment once again
with the installation of a Canadian-built C-type 12-bolt rear with
am 8.875 inch-diameter ring gear. Known as the McKinnon axle, it
was considered stronger and better able to handle the 455's
mountainous torque. Here is your chance to own one of the most
coveted muscle cars ever. This GTO will be a corner-stone addition
to any car collection and will undoubtedly garner all the attention
at car shows and cruise-ins, or just while out on the town! Stock
