Vehicle Description
Fully loaded, factory X-code Super Duty with 455ci V8 engine and
Automatic transmission! Options include air conditioning, power
steering & brakes, power windows, Rally II style wheels with raised
white letter tires, tinted glass, 8-track Stereo tape player, and
more! Only 943 Super Dutys were built for 1974, making this a rare
piece for any astute Muscle Car collector! The new 2nd generation
of Pontiac Firebird was introduced late in the production calendar
debuting in February 1970, largely in part due to late production
tooling changes at the manufacturing plants. It would now only be
offered in coupe form, in various trim models of course, carrying
the design until 1981. The Trans Am would continue to reign supreme
as the top model, and in 1971, Pontiac offered their sports car
model with a stout 455ci V8 for the first time, with the Trans Am
receiving a HO (High-Output) version through 1972. By 1973 & 1974,
the Trans Am would be offered in a special 455 version called the
Super Duty 455, or SD-455. Even with the federal emission standards
at an all-time high, Pontiac managed to muster a stout 290 SAE
horsepower output, compared to the Corvettes only 275 advertised
horsepower! It would only be available from Pontiac for these two
production years, with just 252 in 1973, and 943 examples in 1974,
making them exceptionally rare considering they represent only 1f
all Firebird & Trans Am production those same two years! Offered
here is a beautifully restored 1974 Pontiac Trans Am SD-455
finished in factory code correct CC- Cameo White over 811- Blue
Vinyl interior! Under the hood lies a 455ci-4bbl V8 mated to a
3-speed Turbo Hydra-Matic transmission and standard limited-slip
rear differential. Options include factory air conditioning, power
steering, power disc brakes, power windows, 15 Rally II Wheels,
electric rear window defrost, all Soft-Ray tinted glass, windshield
washers, AM/FM radio with Stereo 8-track player, full interior Lamp
Group, front & rear rubber floor mats, and more! A remarkably well
equipped Trans Am example having an original MSRP of $6,281.75.
Beginning life selling through Porter Pontiac-GMC in Lebanon,
Tennessee, it seems to have stayed close to home most of its life.
While maintaining true driver quality confidence, its overall
condition is quite remarkable! The body was refinished in base
coat/clear coat paint for added endurance over time, and new blue
Trans Am decals applied along with fresh weather stripping. The
engine block bears a proper 485528 casting code, but is not
original to this example bearing an earlier 1972 casting date and
fitted with date matching 114cc (7M5) heads. Though, its appearance
under the hood remains in stunning factory presentation! And
inside, the interior is an all new code correct blue vinyl with
matching carpets, headliner, and seatbelts. More recently housed in
the Nashville, TN Belle Meade Collection, the cosmetic & mechanical
restoration has been professionally maintained superbly! We invite
questions and chances to review this Super Duty in person! Act
quickly, they never last long on the market!!
