For Sale: 1975 Volkswagen Westfalia Camper in Rowlett, Texas

Vehicle Description

Peace, love and a magic carpet ride; that's one summation for life on the road in an old VW camper bus.

Up for sale is this excellent overall condition 1975 Volkswagen Westfalia camper. This bus was last titled in Alaska, from which the previous owner, an adventurous young woman along with her dog set out for the lower 48. With a south and east trajectory it is said her final destination was unknown. We do know she made it as far as Little Rock, Arkansas where the bus's motor gave out.

We found it parked at the shop where she left it. The title in the hands of a distant cousin who lived about 60 miles away. The only thing certain was that the shop was owed money, the cousin didn't have any money and the girl and her dog had gone incommunicado.

After trailering it home to North Texas we set out to freshen it up and put it back on the road to adventure once again. Top of that list was pulling the motor and having it rebuilt by an air cooled VW specialist. We tidied up an already very complete and well preserved interior, steam cleaning and sanitizing all of the soft and hard surfaces. The bus got a new pop up tent and curtains. We made sure all the lighting, instrumentation, heating and ventilation and all of those unique camper bus features were in good working order. We went through the brakes. steering and suspension and installed new correct heavy duty tires. We put a new bluetooth stereo and speakers in it and upgraded the front seat belts to modern retractable three point shoulder harnesses.

Having poured over virtually every square inch of this vehicle we can say that there is nary a speck of rust or corrosion and no sign of prior collision. The glass is all good; the windows all work properly. Thanks to new weather stripping, the doors open and close tight. The paint is not show quality but the bus presents extremely well and should have no problem taking trophies at local shows.

Now, this bus is about as fine a driver condition example as you will ever find. The 1.8 liter fuel injected flat four pulls strong and shifts smoothly through all four gears. Steering and brakes are spot on and it handles remarkably well. The gearing is such that this bus will cruise drama free at 70 mph on the open road. This is a Westfalia that begs to be used for the purpose it was intended. We would not hesitate to hit the road fantastic in this time capsule Volkswagen.

The classic Volkswagen Westfalia camper is highly coveted by classic car enthusiasts and collectors. But they are also universally loved and admired by just about everyone who lays eyes on it. They don't call them the "magic bus" for nothing. Buy it, take care of it and enjoy it and you will never lose money on it.
