Porsche 911s with fewer than 68,000 miles on the clock but we know
of one place with one: MotoeXotica Classic Cars. We are pleased to
present this 2003 Porsche 911 Carrera. Time marches on, even for
Porsche's stalwart 911. The company's ground-breaking vehicle
finally switched to a water-cooled engine in place of the
air-cooled one it used for the previous 40 years. What the company
kept the same was the engine's rear location and overall body shape
that have made the car so successful and famous in sports car
circles. Dressed in silver metallic with black trim, the car's
paint is in overall very good order, with minor imperfections: This
example features vinyl 911 body side graphics as well, which
complement the body color, removable of you so desire. There is a
clear vinyl bra on the front nose of the car. The 911's bodywork is
straight and solid, its engine bay is very tidy, the cargo area is
clean, although at least one strut that holds the lid open has
failed. The battery is clean and appears new, tucked away in the
trunk, away from engine heat and the body-colored bumpers are in
very good condition. Rolling on Sumitomo HTR Z II tires, size
225/40ZR18 up front and 285/30ZR18 in back, each tire is mounted on
a factory, five-spoke aluminum wheel that is currently black to
match the bodyside graphics and offer additional contrast to the
paint. The tires are in good condition while the wheels are in
great, original order. Under that vented rear wing is the 3.6L
DOHC, SMPI, 24-valve high-output, horizontally-opposed and
water-cooled six-cylinder engine with a VarioCam Plus variable
valve timing system. Fuel injection and electronic ignition are
fully-integrated and the car sports a Motronic ME 7.8 engine
management system. This motor is mated to a six-speed manual
transmission and has a 3.44:1 final drive. Driver convenience and
safety features are plentiful - automatic climate control with
carbon filter; force sensitive power rack-and-pinion steering;
power four-wheel disc brakes with anti-lock and cross-drilled
rotors; dual front airbags; door-mounted side airbags; cruise
control; power locks; power windows with one-touch down; six-way
power seats; rear window defroster; power-folding and heated
sideview mirrors; remote keyless entry; projector-beam headlights
with heated washer jets; and moonroof. Inside, the black leather
bucket seats are in excellent condition, while the matching carpet
is in very good order, as is the black Alcantara headliner. In back
is a 50/50 split-folding rear seat. There's a three-spoke,
leather-wrapped steering wheel that telescopes and is in fine
shape, the inner door panels and dashboard are in fine condition,
as is the center console and leather-wrapped shift knob and
handbrake lever. Completing the interior is a Bose AM/FM stereo
with updated stereo head-unit with CD player and four speakers. The
996 had little in common with its predecessor, with the first all
new chassis platform since the original 911 and a new, water-cooled
engine. Technically, it was a major change, a complete breakthrough
from the original car other than overall layout. Development was
shared with its entry-level sibling, the roadster-only Boxster,
which was introduced around the same time, including the front
suspension, various interior components, and the engine, all of
which were enlarged for the 996. However, the multi-link rear
suspension was derived from the preceding 993. At its debut, the
996 featured the most significant change from the classic 911
series: a water-cooled engine replacing the previously air-cooled
engine. Progressively stringent emissions and noise regulations,
environmental concerns, a higher expectation for refinement and the
need for a high-performance, four valve per cylinder engine made
the switch necessary. Other major changes include a completely new
platform having a sleeker body with a more raked windshield, and a
re-designed interior along with new "fried egg" shaped headlamps
instead of previous "bug eye" headlamps. If you're not searching
for a classic German car or an older Porsche, yet desire a fast,
comfortable and distinctive vehicle, this 911 Carrera may just fill
the bill. Stop by MotoeXotica Classic Cars today for a peek and a
