The Iconic ’56 Chevy
If there was ever a car that screamed “50’s” it is the 1956 Chevrolet. These cars helped create a new driving experience for a generation of American drivers: great styling, popular color combinations and plenty of power. This was the era of glasspacks, moon wheel disks, and fuzzy dice. One spin around the block in our Bel Air is enough to transport you back the “50’s.”
Great Restoration
This car is a picture-perfect restored 1956 Chevy Bel Air 2-door hardtop with a modern ZZ4 engine and a Turbo 400 transmission. This is a stock Bel Air on the outside with the power and reliability of a new 350 under the hood. And while you are cruising to the car shows on a hot summer weekend, just roll up the windows and enjoy the A/C.
Very Nice Cosmetics
The car is very nicely refinished in period-correct Twilight Turquoise and India Ivory. The paint work on this Chevy exceeds the quality of the original factory finish. This is a classic Chevrolet color combination that was one of the favorites back in the 50s – just as it is today.
The fit and finish of this car make clear that it was a high-quality (and high dollar) restoration with no expense spared. The gaps are all very good, the chrome excellent and there are no signs of rust. The jams, sills and trunk floor are clean, as is the engine compartment.
The continental kit is a final tribute to the era, adding that touch of class that makes this Bel Air into something extraordinary.
Complementing the exterior finish, the interior features period-correct turquoise and beige upholstery with matching carpeting, dash and headliner. The piping on the driver’s side is starting to wear and the fabric around the upholstery buttons is stretching a bit.
Mechanically Awesome
This Chevy has a new crate ZZ4 350 Chevy small block with fewer than 16,000 miles on the engine that is rated at 355 hp.
It has a chromed Edelbrock intake manifold and a 4bbl carburetor nestled in a detailed engine compartment. This engine is as nice to hear as it is to look at as it unleashes it exhaust notes through its Magnaflow exhaust system.
The transmission is a rebuilt Turbo 400 that shifts properly and is beefy enough to handle the engine’s torque.
A/C, Safety Equipment
Performance and looks aren’t the whole story with this ’56: comfort and driving convenience round out the picture of this outstanding car. This Bel Air is air conditioned and the modern system (operating through factory original controls) blows as much cold air as the hottest day will demand.
Equipped with power steering and power front disc brakes, this Chevy is on a safety par with many new cars. The rest of the safety equipment—lights, horn, wipers—works as do all the gauges. There are front seatbelts as well. The only thing that doesn’t work is the clock, but who cares since this car is time-warped back to 1956.
The car carries out the 50’s look with rear fender skirts and, of course, the continental kit!
