The W108/W109 family was first introduced at the Frankfurt Auto Show in 1965 from produced through 1972. Throughout the entire production run it was only available as a four door sedan.  Late in 1967 the 300SEL 6.3, was introduced. The only outward difference between the 280’s/W108 and the 300’s /W109 was a more generous use of chrome around the window areas. The found in the W109 where the finest and most elegant of the line.

This W109 chassis was only produced in a four door sedan model with the “L” version being about 4 inches . The four inches were added to the back door, making the rear seat area even more comfortable for passengers.  The long wheelbase W109 featured on the 300 SEL, which was equipped with self-leveling air suspension and automatic transmission. Approximately 42,000 Mercedes-Benz passenger cars were sold in the United States in 1972.

The engine runs smooth and has good power. It doesn’t have any issues when driving. The car a fresh oil and filter change, along with a new a new air filter. The oil pressure is good and the engine temp steady at 180 degrees.   The factory A/C blows cold. The transmission shifts properly with no slipping or other issues detected. It does have some nothing severe. The brakes operate properly and the car stops straight. There are no abnormal sounds or noises detected. This car has air suspension and it does work , with the age of the vehicle, it might need some attention if you start driving the vehicle regularly.

This is a very solid good looking Mercedes and the only rust noticed is a minor spot on the right rear door where the belt molding snaps on and appears to be from the clip chipping the paint. The hood has a spot that has been repaired at some point. The and wheel covers are in good shape with only some small dings in a couple of the wheel covers.

The carpets are in good condition. The seats show normal are not torn or split. The dash and instrument panel and knobs are all good.

All the power windows operate with the exception of the front door.  The tires look good and have good tread and would be ok for the date code shows pre 2000 so they should be replaced before driving the car.

This car is very complete with a factory spare and jack with mounting a factory card with instructions on how to change a tire.

Also included with the car 2 parts books, a set of emergency triangles, wheel chocks, a service and warranty policy book and an owner’s manual that is for a 300SEL with 3.5.
