THE STORY BEHIND THIS ............
'54 MGTF 1250cc ROADSTER
Some time ago, I had a call from a South Florida gentleman about one of our listings ... and ... he offered me one of my all-time favorite cars as a trade-in. You see ... I was in college when the movie "The Way We Were" came out and I immediately fell in love with the "Old School" British MG ... which ... was the real star of the movie.
But ... I have never owned one ... since ... they are #1, quite rare ... and ... #2, (if not well cared for) are a lot of work to maintain and restore.
Well ... this gentleman explained to me that his father (who had recently passed away) had owned this car ... for ... as long as he could remember ... and ... had always carefully stored it in the family garage. He further stated that the mileage showing on the odometer was in the 16K range ... and ... to the best of his knowledge, the only thing done to the car was one re-paint. He further stated that the hood was off since these cars are famous for the 2 original side mounted Carburetors not working correctly ... and ... his father had a reliable 2-Barrel Weber Carburetor installed which made it run wonderfully. However ... the hood would no longer close ... which ... he hated ... and ... I believe was the primary reason for him trading it to me. .
Well ... when it arrived ... I was thrilled!! It was exactly as he had described it ... and ... even better! It is a B E A U T I F U L survivor and the body and interior are U N B E L I E V E A B L E!!
But ... the no hood problem was a real bummer. After a lot of research, I certainly did not want to re-install the side mounted original carbs ... so ... I found a incredible, retired Hot Rod builder and fabricator that was willing to make a "One-Off Intake Manifold and Air Cleaner" for the car so that the Weber 2-barrel carb would work correctly ... and ... the hood would close properly.
HE WAS EXPENSIVE ... but ... I can now offer you the most useable 1954 MG-TF in the world. And ... just in case someone ask ... you will also receive the original side mounting carburetors as part of the deal.
